That is the most common reason they are employed. I know that of my own Pokémon, they are quite eager to battle the wild ones.

If you want to, there's nothing holding you back from doing so. Nor is their anything forcing you to battle either.

They may faint, but revive will bring them awake again right away, and any wounds can be healed by the varieties of potions and the Pokémon centers.
