[ It was only pure luck that Yuan's message managed to get to Martel. For the past few weeks, she has been searching for her missing brother non-stop. She would have enlisted help from others, but she was aware of Mithos' lack of popularity with everyone (with the exception of Kaori of course).
Although burdened with worry, she was able to notice the mysteriousness of Yuan's message. As a matter of fact, how long has it been since she last heard of him? While he was indeed avoiding her, he at least had the curtsey to check on her once in awhile. ]
Uh . . . I'm really sorry but there's something that really needs my attention.
[ As much as she wanted to talk to Yuan, finding Mithos came first. ]
[ A long silence envelopes the atmosphere. She's certain that her next words are going to push him off the edge, but someone had to tell him. The only other people he would listen to was either her or Kaori. And from the looks of it, Kaori completely agrees with Mitho's decisions. ]
Mithos. Do you realize how many people you've harmed?
[He knows her tendency to down-play anything that might be wrong, so as not to cause him to worry, but he begrudgingly accepts her answer. For now. The matter of whoever brought her here, and if it really is someone whom she can trust, still troubles him.
He opens his mouth to say something along the lines of "all right", but at the same moment Martel begins to speak. At her words, he gives a quizzical look.] What do you mean?
[ He didn't understand. Martel bit the bottom of her lip to resist the urge to cry out. Why couldn't he understand? As she spoke again, her voice struggled to keep a calm tone. ]
Mithos, you hurt Sheena!
[ Her voice was starting to tremble and sound desperate. ]
Along with some other people like Sayo.
[ She looked back at him with glazed over eyes and quietly spoke. ]
[He had been holding onto one of the metal bars in his other hand, the hand not clasping his sister's, and at the mention of that second name his grip tightens. Why is Martel bringing this up? Martel and that woman don't belong on the same place of existence; they're two pieces that don't fit together, reality against fabrication. His own sister insists on dragging him back to that time, when he's tried so hard to erase it?
It doesn't occur to him that she may not even know what happened back then, a month previous. He certainly hadn't mentioned anything about the days of the experiement or its aftermath to her. He doesn't even consider the other time he had attacked Sayo, long before that mess.]
[a violent shake of his head. It's easier to shift focus to the other name given - that one is cut as clearly and simply as it should be.] Martel, Sheena's our enemy. I told her to stay away from you, because I don't want you to get hurt again.
[ She tore her hand from Mithos' grip. Why was he acting like such a child? He was doing nothing but pushing the blame on his victims. He was making it sound as if Sayo's actions gave him no other choice than to attack her. If she had known that her death would have changed him this much, she would have done something to prevent it.
Her hands gripped the bars that separated them. Our enemy . . . It was as if he thought the entire world was against him - no, them. Every cynical word he had said was like a stab in her heart. She never meant to have him become so mistrusting of people. What she wanted was him to be happy despite the miserable circumstances they were in. She tightened her grip and took in a deep breath to stop her tears from falling. Then she looked back at her brother with an expression of disappointment. ]Sheena's not our enemy! She never hurt me so there's no reason for her to stay away
( ... )
[His hand lingers in the air when she lets go, before falling back to clench into a fist over his heart. There's a spell of silence as he struggles to comprehend her words. They don't fit anywhere in the structures of narrowly-conceived truths that tower endlessly in his mind. And she's crying now... Is..it...his fault those tears are falling? That isn't possible, not when he's done so much for her. All for her...]
[ That sentence might as well have been the trigger to shoot her heart. She doesn't know how to make herself any clearer. Everything she was saying wasn't fitting his sense of logic. Her hands released their grip on the bars before limply hanging by her sides.
Nothing she was saying was working. The Mithos she knew before wasn't showing any signs of returning. There's no other methods left for her to do. She failed him. If guilt could kill, she would be dead by now. ]
I don't understand either, Mithos . . . I'm so sorry.
[Why is she apologizing? She's never done anything wrong; she can't do wrong. And what does she not understand? None of the pieces fit together. He's missing something important, the piece that will bring everything together...
Silence. Then everything clicks into place.]
Oh...I get it now. [an unhinged chuckle, quiet, but sent echoing throughout the cell and down the corridor] Of course, why didn't I see it before?
[ His cold disturbed laughter made her break out in a cold sweat. The deranged look that struck fear inside her, his mysterious words. It was all too familiar.
He was going mad again. ]
Mithos?
[ She was afraid of what he was going to do now. There was no telling what was going through his mind or what he was planning to do. ]
It's because I didn't kill them, right? That's why you're upset. [Of course...she's so kind, she wouldn't want to trouble him by expressing her disappointment. She was covering up her feelings like she had done so many times before... There is another bout of eerie laughter, growing louder this time.]
I'm sorry I disappointed you, Martel. I should have finished them when I had the chance. [He should have killed Sheena when she had fallen, to make sure she wouldn't harm his sister. That woman too...she had no right to force herself into his life. She isn't family; she's nothing. Killing her should have been easy, if he truly wanted to do what's best for Martel. So he had failed her...]

[ Martel was horrified to hear his next words. He thinks she's upset because he didn't kill them? Who in the world was she looking at? She couldn't bare to look at him any longer. Her eyes silently closed as she turned her head away from him and stepped away from the cell. ]
I don't want you to kill anyone, Mithos.
[ Her voice was barely above a whisper. She didn't want to be here anymore. Not while her brother was behaving like this. Her voice steadily rose an octave. ]
Mithos! I'm begging you! Please stop hurting everyone! I never wanted anyone to get hurt so please stop this madness!
[Action] so terrible....sobsimatreenowJune 22 2011, 22:39:54 UTC
Don't worry, I understand. I know that you don't want to make me worry about you, but you don't need to hide it anymore. You don't need to pretend it's okay.
[Regardless of how distressed she sounds, her words won't reach him. It doesn't matter how abrasive they are to his own twisted notion of the truth. His mind is set, and he will keep smoothing her words over to make them fit. Just more bricks in the wall.]
[ Words failed to come out of her mouth this time. She was utterly at a loss as what to do. Her words wasn't reaching him at all. His mind has become so twisted that only a few words actually managed to reach him and even then they become altered to fit his state of sense. There didn't seem to be anything left for her to do.
She doesn't want to give up. Giving up would mean leaving Mithos, her only other family. But as of now any attempt to make him understand would only end up as a futile effort. ]
