We've received news of what Akatsuki has been doing. Since it's the only interesting thing that's happened for a while, I listened in.

Surprise, surprise, they're after that little shit from Konoha, the kyuubi kid. It may work in our favor, so we won't have to deal with outside interference on our next big mission. But that won't be for a while.
