It was around thirty seconds after the music began playing that Soren realised what an utter waste of time this was. He should've known from the start, really, but he'd had a naive thought that surely Shade wouldn't support anything so utterly irrelevant. It was noisy, the flashing lights were sure to be headache-inducing, and the food seemed devoid of all nutritional content. Since when did Shade start catering to every foolish whim, anyway?

"What foolishness," he muttered to himself, turning away from the scene and walking towards the door. Surely there were more useful things he could do with his evening than this. As he made to exit, though, he collided with someone. "Watch where you're going," he snapped.

Immediately holding up his hands in his own defence Jansen took a step back as he began to protest. “Hey-hey-hey! Take it easy! Geez... lighten up a little huh? It’s a party!” He wore a sheepish expression on his face and did seem to be apologetic for running into him even if somewhere in the back of his mind he couldn’t help but feel that Soren had run into him. “You’re leaving already? Y’know I think Shade’s gone to a lot of trouble to do this for us... kinda,” he added before shrugging his shoulders. He was certainly intending to enjoy himself and had his hopes set on finding a bottle of wine that might have been smuggled away somewhere.

Soren frowned tightly. "If Shade were going to go to trouble, then he should've gone to more trouble training new recruits," he snapped. Roughly 60% of anything Soren said seemed to be in a snappy tone of voice. "How is this supposed to further the mission in any way?"

“W-W-Well because it helps people relax and... stuff... so they’ll perform better in the next mission. I-I think anyway... yeah,” Jansen replied as he shifted awkwardly. “What’s your problem? You’ve got a real chip on your shoulder y’know? You know what you need to do? You need to cut loose and have some fun. Quit being so uptight all the time.”

Ranulf had never really been one for dancing (then again, how could you be for dancing when stuff like this never happened?), but either way, he'd decided to be courteous to Shade and actually show up for the event. As soon as he'd got there, though, he'd wound up against the wall with his arms folded, watching everything that was going on. Half of his mind was concerned (and probably thinking too much) that Shade was letting his guard down: he didn't want to end up as chopped liver, thank you very much, despite Shade saying he was keeping an eye on things. And no missions for nearly a week? That was more so concering.

The other part of his mind seemed to scoff at all of that - the part that made his foot tap in time to the music, and his tail swish from side to side. Noticing, he shook his head and smiled lightly. "Heh, being cooped up really does do things to you. You even forget how to have fun."

"Then I take it that this sort of thing isn't regular." Conrart had been observing the party from the sidelines, preferring not to involve himself. He'd been dragged to a 'disco' a very long time ago, and found it a thoroughly confusing experience, nothing like the strict, regimented ballroom dances of nobility. It seemed as though several others were having the same utterly baffled reaction he had had all those years ago, and Shade's earlier description of life on the Sub certainly hadn't included this.

(OOC: Question! What kinds of music would be playing? ie, would it be anything that anyone would recognise?)

Ranulf turned his head slightly in the other's direction, before he sighed a little and shook his head, the ends of the cap flitting from side to side. "Nope. It's a first." From all the years he'd been there, at any rate. "And probably a last. It wasn't like those planning it would give up and let it lie, but for Shade to actually support it..." he trailed off. "Makes no sense."

(ooc: I'd say it'd be just about... well, anything, given that Shade would probably a large collection of music from various genres, so it'd be likely someone would recognise something.)

"He didn't strike me as the kind of leader who was keen on discos," Conrart agreed mildly, contented smile on his face nevertheless. There were remarkably few circumstances in which Conrart was not smiling, so it was hardly significant. "But I suppose it would make up for being unable to take shore leave."

Nena had to admit, she was feeling pretty impressed with Beat about now. She didn't really know the specifics, but one minute he'd wanted a party, and next minute, bam, there was a party! (Or, at least, she assumed this was a party and people were meant to dance; it wasn't something she had firsthand experience with.) Nena grinned, bobbing her head happily to the music as she watched others begin to dance.

Johann-nii and Mihael-nii would've liked something like this... The thought popped into her mind unbidden, and the smile immediately faded from her face. No, Johann wouldn't, he'd be sorta sulky and standing off to the side, but he'd still be happy - but Mihael would love it! We could dance, and...

But... they're not here...Nena's eyes narrowed and she abruptly lunged forwards, grabbing the first person she saw, not caring to see who it was, or even their gender. "Hey!" she shouted, pulling them close to her and leaning in so their faces were only inches apart. She pulled apart only seconds later, an almost manic grin on her face ( ... )

He wished that someone had cared to inform him in advance that the training room would have been taken over with a party, then he could have avoided it all together. Humans were very easy to understand; the majority gravitated towards things that were easy and straight forward, it was far easier to motivate the average person by giving them some kind of incentive such as money or a chance to slack off further down the line. It just wasn’t something that he believed in ( ... )

"It's easy, I bet it's easy!" Nena protested nevertheless. The redhead was determined not to take no for an answer - this was such a one-off, and it was way too fun, and if nothing else, it'd help her forget. "You're not from here originally, right? So they'd have stuff like this where you're from, then, right?" she beamed up at him, abruptly leaning close to his face again and whispering in his ear, "It'll be fun!"

Well... that was true. LA was known for having raging parties at all hours of the day and night but that didn’t mean that he had bothered to attend them (or even been invited for that matter). He looked around the room, some people had already begun to dance whilst others were just chatting animatedly amongst themselves. Neither looked particularly appealing. “Fun? Possibly as a means to torture others,” he said darkly as he stepped away from her. This girl didn’t seem to understand the idea of personal space. “Slicing them open would be fun.” He added thoughtfully.

Grudgingly, Beat cast an impressed look over the converted training hall. Shade had really pulled out all the stops: it was suprising the strict computer let them have a party at all. Not that the word 'no' would mean much to Beat. He was determined it would go ahead, and he'd plan in secret if he had to.

It was largely because, put bluntly, people here were freaky. They were so focused on following orders and training and going on missions and surviving that they'd forgotten how to have a good time. Or maybe they never knew in the first place? Whatever, it didn't matter. But if anyone asked his reasons behind the whole thing, Beat would just shrug and reply he got bored.

He was stood to one side, away from the others as if too cool to give them attention. Of course, he was actually just waiting for Rhyme to show. Hopefully no one would notice.

Soul was not a party person. It had nothing to do with being cool or uncool it was just something he had never really gotten himself too involved with in the past though admittedly he had mentioned that throwing one would be a good idea; people were too tense and parties were always a good source of fun and relaxation. Tugging at his headband as he rubbed his head awkwardly he moved over to stand beside Beat, glancing over at him. “Heh you look like you’re having a blast.” He teased. “Isn’t it pretty uncool not to join in with your own party?” Out of everyone who had mentioned the party he felt that Beat had definitely been the loudest and most enthusiastic. Seeing him stood off to the side like this made him think that something was wrong.

Beat jumped at being addressed, not expecting to be noticed. He quickly covered up his surprise with a glare at Soul. Some kid with a stupid white haircut was telling him what was uncool? Riiight. "Shut it, yo. I do what I wanna do." Dismissively, he looked over to the door. He hadn't had a chance to talk to Rhyme before the party, so he had no idea if she was even coming, but he still hoped she was. She of all people deserved to enjoy herself.

The music was good; there was plenty of food on offer and most people seemed to be having a good time. Soul could not believe what he was hearing from the other youth who had pretty much single-handedly been responsible for all this happening in the first place. “So you pestered Shade for a party and you’re not gonna’ enjoy yourself? Yeah that’s cool,” he remarked sarcastically as he leant against the wall and looked over at Beat, shoving both of his hands into his jacket pockets. “You do what you wanna’ do huh? Doesn’t look it to me otherwise you’d have never mentioned having a party. That’s really uncool y’know.” He added flippantly.

As always, the only reason Ikuto had really turned up for the party was from his philosophy of 'depending which way the tail points'. Or that's what he told himself, anyway. There was two smaller, more minor reasons. One was the disbelief that Shade had suddenly gone soft, which as time went on seemed less and less like a joke; the second, was that there was a lack of anything with a violin in the music that was being played.

Of course, that was purely a minor reason. Now he was just stood at the side of the room, with only Yoru nattering on at him about the lights and the people for company, whilst trying to decide what best to do to entertain himself. Dancing wasn't a forteit of his. The food seemed like a pretty good option, so he pushed himself off the wall and walked over to the stacks and stacks of... well, hot dogs. Someone obviously liked them. He was just about to grab one when he noticed - sensed - someone staring at him. He turned his head reflexively in the direction of the person standing a few metres away from him. "
