I thought I had found the perfect answer to the Vet Tech thing. I found an online program that was listed as AVMA-accrediated AND not super expensive. (Note: You must graduate from an AVMA-accrediated program to be eligible to sit for the NY licensing exam). Most other programs are around $250/credit x ~70credits = You do the math! Eww. This was $ ( Read more... )

I haven't run into it before, but I'm not surprised by it either. It's bascially your chance to let them know why you didn't persist to graduation and why you're deciding to go back to school now. I would recommend talking about the "real world" education you've gotten through your job, and how valuable that has been in focusing your career goals ( ... )

Yeah, I talked about how I took time to explore my options because I didn't know what I wanted to do and how working in an animal hospital helped me realize what I truly want to do as a career! I was just amused on how the person who responded to my email...
"I would also send a letter that is called a GAP statement. Stating what you have done since you were last in school. "
Lrn2punctuatecorrectly.
I googled to see if a GAP statement should be formatted in a specific way since she didn't really say what it was and Google came up with....Gap.com as the first hit. I didn't think they wanted my overview of this season's hottest fashion looks. :P
But yep! I wrote about my experiences and on-the-job learning and how I'm ready to take the next step!

And the accrediting thing...they SHOULD say that it's in review because I feel bad for the people that don' research it or check with their state education dept. only to find out it was a complete waste of time.

Sounds good, I'm not aware of a particular format for it either.

And seriously, you should tell the accrediting agency (once you decide whether or not you're pursuing that option) because they'll take issue with it and stop them from lying to other people.

And, so, I was thinking about summer today (because it's ass cold out). Wine tour????

I think that is totally awesome that you knew to look into that other program. The one thing that would certainly make me question the program is the fact that they state on their website to potential students that they ARE accredited when they in fact are not. If nothing else, I could see that as false advertisements and some really pissed of students, who get to the NYS Exam only to find out they can't do it...I know I would hella pissed. So good for you and for doing your research!! :)

Congrats on the mortgage approval...we are going through that lovely process as well. Lots of luck on finding the perfect house! :) If you are like me, you look at listings obsessively and notice right away when there is a new one! Please keep us posted on how that goes.

I posted yesterday, and LJ ATE IT. bastards. And it was funny, too. I made some cute gap joke, which I can't remember now.

But congratulations, and keep us updated. Good for you for doing your research, and I hope all goes well.
