Doctor Who Thoughts.

Oct 05, 2011 02:04

I love Doctor Who.  I've loved Doctor Who for years... but I have to say, I was looking forward to Moffat's take (I love Blink, Girl in the fireplace & Silence in the Library) & am terribly disappointed.  I love love loooooved The Doctor's Wife (and while I might be forgetting an episode), I think that's the only one I adored.

there be SPOILERS here )

YEEESSSSSSS to all of of this.

I have a feeling maybe next season will be the Doctor and River on those nightly trips?

I had a feeling I wasn't going to love Moffatt's take, and I hate to be proven right. I also don't love the creepy all the time, it seems. It was more effective when you had Blink or something show up every so often, but it feels like there is always an episode where nightmares come to life or creepy children/dolls/etc.

Although, I do love Rory -- he's such a Puff. When you could tell he was in such pain but was willing to stand there to protect? Gah!

Glad not to be the only one!!! :D

Yes, I hope we do get the nightly trips, if only to actually see that there is love there on both sides. SIGH.

I just hate that he reduced River Song, who could've been this awesome strong woman, into just this girl whose defined solely by the Doctor.

haha. YES. I miss the episodes of discovering new planets, and helping the masses! Too much creepy for sure!

Someone else who feels like I do! Okay, I've had so many issues with this series. I spent 99% of it sitting there, wondering why everyone else around me seemed to LOVE IT, and I ended up frustrated and annoyed after every episode. And it sucks because series 5 was SO GOOD for me, and then this series happened, and I'm just so disappointed.

I hate Amy, cannot STAND her. She treats Rory like shit, yet everyone is like "OMG BEST RELATIONSHIP EVER!" NO! Amy doesn't get a free pass because she treated Rory kindly in ONE EPISODE.

I think, honestly, the best thing to happen would be new companions. But that's not happening any time soon.

YAY! Glad we are both not alone in our annoyance with this season. And YESSSSSSSSSSS to your Amy comment. Her selfishness will never not annoy me. Grr.

I do like 11! It seems like I don't, but I completely agree about the whimsical-ness & love love love that he never stops moving! haha. I like that someone who has that much going on in their brain would have a physical outlet for it.

EXACTLY. The crib. I mean... if they never got River back as an infant... why would there be a crib?? And why would it have River's name on it???

That's true! I forgot about that she didn't have guards in the Library!! YAY.

SO TRUE. I was so confused! Why is she in jail, if the robo people saw what happened? That's a lot of witnesses that know the Doctor is alive. And if it's just because the Doctor wants a lower profile, that's beyond ridiculous!

Though. She was at her parents without guards. I dunno know.

I just think this whole season has been too CRAZY. It seems like each episode is trying to one-up the next one, adding more and more "STUFF" to the show to make it bigger and better than ever before. The storylines are getting too out of hand. Like you said, a lot of it is getting wildly unbelievable. The whole show is one giant suspension of disbelief, even beyond what you should expect in a show about time-traveling aliens. I LOVED Blink and Silence in the Library, but will someone please put a lid on Moffat? He needs to be contained!

I miss Ten, too. :(

And another thing! Ten was all about trying to save things. He was driven by curiosity and adventure and love, but most of all, compassion. Like the demon that was supposed to be the First Evil in The Satan Pit. It's EVIL. And yet of all the reactions anyone could have to it, the Doctor feels PITY. He is driven by compassion and saving everyone and I loved that! Eleven is just... not that guy. His motivations seem more selfish, and while that's not necessarily bad, his stories just aren't as riveting for me. I can't really relate to him. Yes, he feels pity, but not like Ten. It feels like an afterthought.

AGREED. SO MUCH AGREED. Moff is too in love with creepy crawlies, and missing the bigger "human" picture. I want to relate to the universe! Not just be scared.

IA. This series has been SO underwhelming. I wasn't a huge River fan because I found her smug, but she grew on me over the course of series 5. But then this series happened... and um. No. She has the worst life ever and it's just kind of sad. I totally agree with you that while River is head over heels for the Doctor, the Doctor himself just isn't really into it which makes River just come off as creepy and obsessive. UGH.

And nothing in this series makes any sense. It's a pointlessly convoluted plot. Idk if you watched the video I posted on my lj a few days ago, but I'll post it again here for you. It does a good job of pointing out just how ridiculous this plot actually is.

And nothing in this series makes any sense.

I think sometimes as we get older- we have a habit of over-thinking things, and over-analyzing when sometimes 'a cigar is just a cigar'.

I saw a post on tumblr where a mom was making a comment that her kids (only 7 and 8 years old) figured out some of the main points of Series 6 before she did.

Well, that's the problem with series 6. There's this mix of the incredibly obvious where everyone and their grandmother figured out that River was Rory and Amy's kid and that it was either a ganger or the robot that "died" at Lake Silencio coupled with this completely nonsensical crap that is outlined in the video I posted above.

I guess I just don't have a problem with any of the stuff mentioned in the video about series 6. IMO, it shows the completely ridiculous, non-sensical length that the bad guys will go to just take down one guy (even if it makes no sense to rest of us) because his name has become so big throughout the universe. To quote Ten: "I'm the Doctor. Look me up." Eleven, at end of the finale is even saying "I got too big and loud. It's time to go back underground."

Here's what I seeing: It's like the Doctor could be in some space-sandwich shop, just enjoying a peanut butter sandwich, and over in some corner would be the bad guys gasping, and wondering what he'll do next even if the guy is just thinking about ordering a slice of cheesecake. His reputation has gotten so big that the enemy thinks they'd probably have to do something as big as his reputation.
