You've not had a full costume removal for the men yet? So you don't know if they really have the nerve to do it? And you open on Firday??? Yikes!!!!
Cue to cue are essential! I do them every show, musical or not. It's essential for the light cues, set changes, etc. I usually run them the Saturday before open. Then on Sunday I do the first tech, starting at two and tell my cast to expect to be as late as a normal rehearsal (9 PM) and expect a lot of stop and go. Tech rehearsals are a pain, but pay off in the end. I've worked with directors that insist as tech isn't necessary if the stage manager and lighting director attend the last week of rehearsal. With those directors, hell week is exactly that.
Yes, Heir Director told us last Thursday we weren't doing a Q2Q because "the actors hate them. You stand around and do nothing. We're just having a paper tech instead." I think it was at this point that my poor stage manager heart leapt out of my chest and attempted to run for the door.
Well, we paid for it last night. Apparently the lighting guy hadn't brought any of his cues to paper tech, so the SM still doesn't have everything numbered for the show. We're in a different theatre with different equipment and different acoustics and a completely different set up than we've previously worked with, and it shows.
And again, I am not upset we had Q2Q. Hell, I am thrilled he finally admitted we NEEDED one. I am upset that it took almost a week for him to realize we needed on, and even MORE upset by the fact that he kept telling us we'd get out early so we could rest and then we didn't get out intl after midnight. A lot of us have day jobs!
