[Pendergast's comm is sitting outside, rather enjoying the view of the ocean. It seems to be set up on a rock or some slanted pile, and the frame is simply part sand, part surf, all tranquility ( Read more... )

At least the swimsuit is black this time. [actionnnnn] kindly_done August 20 2010, 05:29:59 UTC
[At some point while Pendergast was out swimming, Jack arrived on the beach, because he really hates the ocean and thus feels the need to go stare at it constantly. So here he is, staring at it.

Imagine his surprise upon seeing this super pale thing--person? Yes, it's a person--rise out of the waves. For a moment, he wonders if he's gone overboard on ADAM again, if he might be seeing ghosts. But as the figure comes closer, it becomes clear that it's only a man, one of the tall brothers from the last event.

Being as Pendergast was an ally, however briefly, Jack feels obligated to greet him. Unsure of how to address him, he settles for simplicity:]

Hi.

[Pendergast raises an eyebrow at Jack and bows his head slightly.]

..Jack, is it? [He moves past him, grabbing the towel and speaking to the camera, and then turning to face him.] I see you have recovered. ["from the event" is omitted here, because he will be damned before he will talk openly about the ghouls. :|]

[He nods, looking away a little uncomfortably--he's not so keen on discussing that event with a stranger either.]

I'm okay. My hand was hurt from...something else. Nobody else got hurt after I, um, fell asleep?

[Cool blue-eyed gaze. He stares at Jack, raising his eyebrow just an infinitesimal amount.]

Not that I am aware of.

How long ago did you break it? [Yeah, he totally noticed. >.>]

[ If Pendergast cares to look towards the water again he will find a distinctly crocodile-ish looking log swimming in the shallow water.

It turns and seems to pause for a moment, clearly marvelling at the sight of the agent in his shorts. Eventually it starts slowly drifting towards the shore. ]

...

... It seems that scientist has lost his crocodile.

[ Oh please, she's not lost or lost to anybody at all. She's a big girl and she can go for a swim by herself if she likes.

Besides, Bhamba is too busy to play with her today anyway.

Speaking of which, it seems this person is paying attention to her. Slowly she drags her body out of the water and turns her head towards Pendergast, greeting him with a loud exhale. ]

[He stands his ground. He knows how to deal with crocodiles back home, but this one seems intelligent somehow. After all, how many crocs would willingly protect people in a zombie invasion?]

Can you understand me?

[Hey, it's worth asking.]

There were mermaids once.

Mermaids?

[The question is only barely so, his voice is so neutral.]

The boy talks to them. I only saw one.

Boy? [Well, now you've caught his interest.]

What is his name, if you don't mind?

That's what I've heard. But I never checked.

[He nods absently, not looking at the camera, his back to the comm.]

I've heard there used to be inhabitants, but for all intents and purposes it seems completely bereft.

I thought the ocean in Alice in Wonderland had had its own set of creatures, but I suppose this is not exactly as the story, in any case.

I can count the number of things that are like the story on one hand.

It depends on how thoroughly you have read it.

[A glance back at the camera.] Have you ever experimented with the rooms here?
