It's so tragic. I feel so sorry for the little boy. My heart was bleeding when I heard the news. I saw a 3-D graphic of the ride on CNN. He should have never been on that ride, ever. The mother should have never taken in on him without a doubt, and I believe that a Disney employee should have forbid it, regardless of his height. What a loss, for nothing but irresponsibility.

You are so right! What does a height mean anyway? It just means how tall someone is! It says nothing about how someone would react to a situation.

Every child is different, and some four year olds are afraid of the dark, and bugs, and noises and thunder! Can you imagine how some would react to that "amusement" ride?

They should not let small children go on those rides, period! There are too many parents that would drag their terrified children on them for selfish reasons. (you're going on the ride whether you like it or not because I want to go on the ride!)

I actually saw a mother saying that very thing to a child at the California State Fair years ago. I took it upon myself to inform her that her daughter didn't want to go on the ride and she needed to back off of it. I don't know if it was my place to get into a screaming match with this woman, but considering the trauma her child was in, I wasn't having it.

At least he's in heaven now, and mom is left to consider her decision for the rest of her life.

GOOD for you! I am so proud of you for standing up for that child. It amazes me the things people do to their own flesh and blood!

It's tragic!
I just wanted to say though, that last year, I took Allie to an amusement park and there was a father with 2 young children in front of us - one was probably 8 and the other was 4. The 4 year old was just slightly under the height requirement (I mean minimally) and the employee would not let the child on the ride. The father went crazy - screaming and arguing the child was tall enough. But I have to respect the employee because she never gave in. You're right though - parent just don't care. I mean these kids have the rest of their lives to experience these rides, it's not the end of the world if they don't get to do it right away.

That employee should be given a raise for being strong enough to stand up to parents that are bullies!

And yes, these small children have the rest of their lives, except one little boy whose mother wasn't wise enough to make a good decision!

I heard this on the news and was just completely stumped. I am almost used to the STUPIDITY of people in regards to their children BUT I have to wonder about the amusement park allowing a 4 YEAR OLD child on that type of ride. The mother SHOULD be brought up on CHILD ABUSE and MURDER charges as far as I am concerned.

Disney World should not be allowing small children on those rides, in my opinion! I was surprised when I heard that they did!

I'm going to write to them and voice my opinion!

Good for you. You know, when you go to places like Disney World, you figure the ride is safe if your child is big enough or old enough to go on it. They need to re-evaluate their rules for letting someone on a ride!!

Four is far too young.

Children at four don't really know the difference yet between what is real and what is not.

I think Disney World should change their policy about who is allowed on such a ride.

As you sensibly point out, how can a small child have the ability to reflect on whether or not such a ride would be too intense? One would hope adults could protect the child until he can make such a decision.

You are absolutely right! And I'm going to make sure that Disney World gets my opinion on this policy!
