Coming out on top isn't all it's always cracked up to be. You said it yourself: he pulled tricks. And I really do feel like you're above all of that.

If coming out on top means jeopardizing the way I live, the things I believe, and the person I want to be, I'll settle for second place anytime. Trust me, you're better than being on top.
