we have some repos at my work. i know one of them is a jeep. let me know if you're interested in finding out about them and i'll give you the number for our collections lady.
My Jag X-Type is AWD. I <3 it, but I definitely bought it USED. The seats fold down perfectly for skis. I've had two snowboards in it before. With the gas prices, I'd definitely go smaller than an SUV in your shoes. All subarus are AWD which is pretty sweet, but I guess you're looking at going to a different company. I'm all about Nissan... and I know my brother LOVED is old Audi A4 before he hit a patch of ice and totaled it. Definitely go small, I'd say. Try to save on the gas even if it is AWD.
My brother loves his Audi wagon, he steered me towards a couple of used A4 wagons.
I am more than a little gunshy on getting another Subbie- sometimes they run for forever- other times they require alot of repairwork.
My folks have a nissan which they love- and will drive to the wheels fall off.
I will say both the Saab and Subbie have spoiled me on the features. Heated leather seats have never felt so good.
In regards to gas prices, thats why I'm contemplating the Altima and Maxima, or the Saab products- I had luck with gas mileage and space on the Saab 9000s I drove all through high school and college.
I'd like to keep getting 25 mpg for my daily driving. Also something with room for the dog in the back seat.
Also, there's always room to put junk in the trunk.
European cars cost more to maintain, on average, than American or Japanese cars. Japanese cars are, on average, the most reliable. So basically Saab meh.
The A4 got a new model in 2002, so 2000 or 2001 might be a great year point. Great prices, since it's an older generation, but late in a generation is often when they're most reliable.
