If you want to read a wonderful story about ugly parents begetting beautiful children, take a look at Graham Greene's short story Under the Garden. It's one of my favorites.

Diet coke is not insipid. The taste of this chemical is like dishwasher soap (although I never tried to drink dishwasher soap..)
