On Wednesday I met Ira. She wanted to goto a photo exhibition but first of all we sampled some apple juice made by one of her neighbours in outer Bohemia. On the plain outside the walls of Hvezda the Battle of Bila Hora was reenacted yesterday. It was noisy and spectacular. The original battle back in the 17th century battle was fairly decisive and was at the start of the thirty year war. Decisive yes, but they still managed to keep fighting for another thirty years. Well I haven't posted much since I came back to Prague. I'm now settled in the upgraded flat. A large flat tv showing only Czech programmes, a microwave combination oven so it is an improvment. A Czech artist friend of mine says that there are two totally different sides to the face so we spent a pleasant afternoon taking photos of half our faces. ( Read more... )

How can this happen in the Czech Republic? Yesterday evening I walked up to Kosmos, the local bar. It was surrounded by unhappy looking Czechs. There was a sign outside in Czech saying the pub was closed for technical reasons. How can a pub close for technical reasons? So I walked back heading for the student bar called 'Fakup'. I woke this morning at 06:30 but decided to go back to sleep. My mobile phone which I'm actually using now woke me at five to nine with a text message 'walking the dog at 09:00'. Ash is quite a macho dog. Throw him a stick and he will return it but only after breaking it in his jaws. If he finds a larger stick while he is retrieving the one you threw then that's the one he wants and that's the one he will bring back to you. Today I had lunch with Yue, the Chines girl I met on the metro on Sunday, at Motol. Afterwards we sat out on the balcony and talked the warm sunny afternoon away over cappucinos and Lattes. Another Saturday another barbecue at Cerveny Cones. First though to Devicka for the Ambassadorfest put on by all the foreign embassies in Prague. Ethnic food from all over the world and a range of international music. This kept our attention for all of 20 minutes before we left for the barbecue. Thursday I played petanque. A french form of aerial bowls which involves throwing iron nballs and attempting not to catch one. I have seen plastic sets but Ira has a contempthfor anything made of plastic.
