Let's Play Galaxy Angel, Chapter 2, Part 4: Somebody get this guy a Fisherman's Friend

Back| First| Forward

I should really be sewing. Instead, I have taken a break to bring you another chapter. When we last left off, we were home free until a bunch more enemies came out of nowhere. This has not been a good day for the Elsior, has it?

The Angels are on one side of the corridor between those planetoids, and the Elsior's on the other. Remember that the Elsior is a ceremonial ship and its weapons are thus quite pathetic. It's also not fast enough to get to the other side before it gets hit. As for enemies, we have a Barmell and three Spards on the Angels' side, and on the Elsior's side, two Spards, two Barmells, and an unknown battleship that looks like a shoe horn.

Seriously, look at this thing.

Lester considers sending some of the Emblem Frames back to guard the ship, but Tact reminds him that it would be even worse if their way forward were blocked. Instead, we go with a plan in which the four Frames take the enemies in front while the Elsior tries its best to get through the passage. Then the Angels can go beat up the other enemies. As soon as the Angels agree to take part in Plan Suicide Mission, Almo receives a communication from the rear hostile fleet.

Oh, not this guy again.

Tact's shock that Rezom is still after the Elsior quickly moves back to trolling him like he did last time. Remember, kids, nothing annoys the guy who's been chasing you all chapter than telling him you don't remember who he is. Rezom rants about how his perfect plan has ensured that the Elsior is defenseless because the Emblem Frames are preoccupied and blah, blah, blah... until he notices that one fighter's missing.

Just in time. Tact thanks Milfie's two-sided luck for swinging around again, while Rezom whines about his ruined plan. No, seriously. He whines. No amount of transcribing can do the voice acting justice. This guy is a wreck when he doesn't get his way. New plan: the same as before, but Milfie guards the Elsior, giving it a chance to survive.

Tact: Weren't you the one bragging about your pincer tactic?

I leave Lucky Star attacking the enemy closest to the Elsior and leave the Elsior on its path through the passage. I send Kung Fu Fighter back to help Milfie out with the rear attacking fleet. Ranpha's speed is a good asset for these situations; if someone needs backup, she'll get there the quickest out of anyone. Happy Trigger, Trick Master, and Harvester stay where they are.

One annoying thing about the AI in this game is that it senses an attack "missing" when the enemy it was aimed at just blew up. Why is this annoying? Because it also counts for specials -- for example, if one of the shots from Forte's Strike Burst "misses" because the rest of the attack obliterated the enemy she was aiming at, she'll berate herself for the miss. The screen here is blindingly white because I happened to capture that second of the guy Milfie just "missed" exploding.

Milfie solos everyone but the battleship and everyone else gets rid of the front fleet, so I send Mint to go Flier Dance the last ship, even though Ranpha will probably finish it off before she gets there. One can never be too thorough.

(And just as I type this, Milfie finishes it off. Is she ever making up for lost time.)

Yeah, he doesn't last long. By the way, the carrier that looks like a shoehorn is called a Zem. It's tougher than the Zarl he was using before, but Rezom still panics hilariously whenever it gets hit. The voice actor must have run through a pack of Halls for these battle quotations.

Forte got the last hit on the Zem. Why has Vanilla supplanted Ranpha as Killer of Everything in Sight? Something is seriously wrong here.

The after-battle lines always differ based on how well the Angels did in battle. Forte tells us to give her more things to shoot next time. I agree, I have been underusing her. I'll fix that next time. Milfie blushes when Tact says that even her bad luck was good, because had she not stayed in the hangar for the first part of the fight, they wouldn't have been able to repel Rezom the Massive Tool. Forte just laughs and teases Tact some more.

Suddenly, Shiva's maid comes onto the bridge, hands Tact a letter addressed to everyone, and leaves. Tact opens it and reads it aloud.

You did admirably.
-Shiva Transbaal.

Doesn't mince words, that kid. Ranpha starts looking over Tact's shoulder, all excited to see a real live royal commendation. Tact says he can't really be celebrated more than the Angel Wing can; he was only as confident as he was because he'd heard that one Emblem Frame was a match for two cruisers. Unfortunately, Vanilla bursts our bubble: that "analysis" was actually from Milfie's performance results in a training exercise, where her two opponents suddenly and inexplicably had tech issues and she accidentally crashed into them.

The moral of this chapter is: Milfie's luck is weird. Get used to it.

Keep supporting your favourite haremette to get her in the top 3 of affection point levels by the route split! (Ranpha fans, support... your second favourite?) I'll leave this open for a little while, but I don't want to take forever and a day, either. Answer in the comments!
