i'm an aesthete. i see art as an ends in and of itself - it exists to be pleasing to the senses, and is not a means to some higher good. my amateur photography (which is really me trying to capture the better-looking moments in my life) exists so that i can look at it and be pleased at capturing something nice looking. frankly, it annoys the crap out of me when people call photographs "interesting", "intriguing".. anything like that. i don't believe in it, because it all sounds ridiculously pretentious. i'm a whore for originality, because that is what pleases my senses. other people are into more banal things than i am, but it's all subjective ( ... )

i can't really decide how i view art , sometimes i feel that it shouldn't be looked into it too deeply and just be taken as it is, but other times i feel like the artist was trying to say something and can't help looking further into it. i like photography because i like being able to capture moments that otherwise would be fleeting, and i like forcing people look at things in a very specific way. i don't really consider what i do 'art' though, i think of it as more of a hobby ( ... )

how about you dont commit yourself to photography at suffolk. just get an AA in liberal arts or humanities. and then you can decide what you want to do. and dont not do something because everyone else does it. because i mean, what isn't everyone doing. everyone is doing journalism, pre med, pre law, english, music, photography, psychology... its all the same, its really hard to be an original at college because everyones trying so hard to be original to begin with, and we all end up relatively the same, no matter how much you think you're above it, beyond it, or whatever. do what you love. if its photography, then thats what you have to do. and you'll love what youre doing, no matter what anyone else may be doing even if its the same thing. or go for photography, but also have a strong background in something else as well, in case photography doesnt bring home the bacon, you know? go get a 2nd bachelors, who giives a shit if youre in school when youre 27? half of my co workers are over 25 and still working for their bachelors, its not ( ... )

yeah right now i'm just majoring in liberal arts and i guess i'll stick with that, unless i decide photography is definately the way i want to go. i have a feeling i'm going to be one of those people who's in school until they're 27, but honestly i'm not in a rush to jump into the great beyond so that's fine with me.

late bloomers is definately a good term for us. i wish there was time for me to try out every job i find interesting but that would take years and years. i guess that's why we have liberal arts education.

dude, it's 5:20 and it's totally dark outside.
