Confession time: I was really, really good and didn't read this the entire time it was sitting in the exchange inbox but I totally cracked and read this at the start of the week. IT'S BEEN TOUGH TO HOLD IN MY SQUEE, LET ME TELL YOU!

Firstly, I love you for choosing this prompt. I love the way you write Mirai. She really sounds like a teenager, and I think you have her wittiness and her sarcasm down--I loved her indignation when she told Evan that High School Musical was for tweens! (And of course Evan would hum along and know the songs.)

I liked that you had her calling Evan by mistake, that they're not close enough friends for him to be her first choice but that he cares enough to drop whatever he was doing to come cheer her up. I loved that Evan was kind of bad at feelings and at times made things more awkward just by being himself, but that he was doing his best. This was my favourite bit: "Do you need me to do anything?" Evan asked and -- oh, for god's sake, he couldn't be serious. "Like, beat him up, or --",

This comment had me grinning all over the place, I'll admit, because yay that is exactly what I was trying to do! I love Mirai a WHOLE LOT, and I really wanted her voice to come across as unique and charming and slightly bratty, so.

I am not normally the biggest fan of gen, I have to admit, but I absolutely love this fic. I love getting Mirai's voice, and I love love love Evan's characterization; the way he's so awkward and worried about inappropriate, the way he's just sort of painfully earnest, the way he immediately offers to beat up her ex-boyfriend. I just think your characterizations are great, and this was a fascinating glimpse of their relationship.
