I really want to be mean, and I've had my dinner, so what do I do?

The following has been edited because I'd probably get in shit for whining about it, even though i wasn't the one who destroyed someone else's property.

I'm a fairly tolerant .  I'm good to people and in return, they usually repay the favour.  So, at the place where I work, non- ( Read more... )

Who is "they" that tell you it's your problem if loaned items get destroyed?

And does Mr/Ms Intolerant loan out books too? ... You can probably see where I'm going, but that would be wrong (though satisfying)

Instead, how about telling this person you're donating a copy to the local library in his name since he enjoyed your book enough to keep it.

I like that last idea and second it! Someone once donated money in my name to a charity I don't support, and it's a really annoying thing (they didn't do it on purpose, so I couldn't be openly mad, and it chaffed).

Make sure you tell them that you put a nice, shiny bookplate with their name in it before you donated it, too!

Brilliant idea! Make a nice little flier about it, too, and hang it on the office bulletin board. Be sure to say only wonderful things about Pious Cow-orker's generous contribution. The funny thing that book burners don't realize is that they actually feed the production of new books.

Of course, Pious (or one of their ilk) will probably just steal it from the library, too, but it still sends a message.

Man, that sucks. People are can be such a$$holes. :( I'd go with the library idea petardier had, because I bet the expression on his/her face would be hilarious. *laughs evilly*

RAmen! :D

i concurr with the donation to the library, you should also invest in some neon signs to advertise that it's now availible in the library and offer free hugs with every borrowing of said book, icing on the cake if you will

How very rude...I say DONATE DONATE DONATE!!! Then a nice card letting them know of their generous donation...yes sounds like a plan. Then take a pic so we can all see!!! (not really necessary but it would be very cool).
