Leonard nods a little as Jim speaks, "That's right Jo, Jim and I will never be gone for very long, and you'll never be along, like Jim said, you are going to have lots of aunts and uncles who will be around to take care of you and friends to play with if we have to go. But we are going to try and work it out so we both don't have to go at the same ( Read more... )

6 Months Later survivor_savior March 28 2011, 00:51:33 UTC
Ow.

That's Jim's first thought. He knows he's just had surgery, and when it suddenly occurs to him, not that he just had surgery, but that the surgery is over and the year long healing period is about to begin he opens his eyes. M'Benga is leaning over him and the deflated look on his face pops Jim's bubble of excitement right away.

"I'm sorry Captain..." the doctor whispered. "We tried...we did, but your body rejected the AU immediately..."

And god, having your torso sliced open doesn't hurt nearly as much as that...

(AU is artificial uterus. And if you remember, the Enterprise is the first family friendly flagship Starfleet has. They would never be able to take Jim off of it without huge public backlash, being as that is common knowledge and Jim saved the goddamn earth. He would only have to be off-duty completely for the birth and then the 3 months before the child could enter daycare. With Spock there to be acting captain for that period of time, there's no real reason for Jim to leave the ship, not when there is at least ( ... )

Leonard's not sure what to say to Jim, so he just sits on the edge of the bed and holds his hand and kisses his forehead, and tells him they'll find away. "'m sorry darlin'"

[ Well not only from a starfleet stand point but from a Bones freaking out stand point. Because he is safety freak and I see Bones wanting everything planed to a T and wanting them to take time off to have the baby, and he would want these things to happen on earth. Where he has more control.]

Jim waits in silence until M'Benga leaves, but when its just him and Bones in the room, he squeezes his hand tight and lets himself cry, body shaking with deep, painful sobs.

(Now that I could see. But Jim would probably be like "Bones, you've done 5 c-sections this year". And sit right back down in his Captain's chair.)

Leonard climbs further on to the bed and pulls Jim close and just holds him tightly kissing the top of his head. "Jim will figure something out, we can try again, or get a surrogate."

[ see bones would view it as this is my kid, and my husband, and he would want things as smooth as possible. Not leaving the second Jim gets Preggers but around five or six months, also he would want to take time off because no matter how awesome the daycare was he wouldn't put a 3 month old in daycare, he would want the time off to bond with the kid and let Jim heal as well and bond as a family.

He would have the mentality of this is my kid too, and if you want to do this I'll support you and want it too, but I am going to have some say as well Jim.

It's just how my bones would roll with it.]

"Mmhm..." Jim replies, half asleep. "We gotta...tell Jo. She'll be happy." He mumbles, curled tight underneath the blanket.

Leonard smiles "Yeah Jim, we'll tell her, she'll be very happy."

Leonard says and he lets Jim get some rest and since he's up he just heads to his office to catch on paper work and check his appointments for the day.

A few hours later he is seeing patients but ever so often he goes in and checks on Jim.

Jim sleeps through almost the entire day, just like he's been wanting to do for the past couple days. He wakes around the end of Leonard's shift, stretching and rolling over with a loud yawn.

Leonard comes into the room and grins a little. "Mornin' sleepy head." He laughs a little "I was just getting ready to go get Jo."

"Well its settled then! You'll be my helper." He smiled. "And I think your mommy was right...new babies can be kind of goopy and gross." He told her and Jo agreed.

"Yeah, I saw before she took the pictures away. Will this new baby be goopy too?"

"Just for 10 minutes or so." Jim said. "But you'll get to see it once it's all nice and clean and cute."

Jo nods and focus' on her food for a bit a happy look on her face. "I'm going to be the best big sister." She says smiling

"You are going to be the best big sister kiddo." Leonard smiles working on his own food.

"I have a lot of homework tonight." Jo says a moment later

"We'll start it after dinner baby, alright?" Leonard says.

"Okay." She nods

"How are you feeling Jim?" He asks the smile he hasn't been able to get off his face all day still in place.

"I'm feelin' like helping someone beast some history homework." Jim said, taking his empty plate to the replicator.

Jo giggles and dumps hers too, before running off to get her bookbag.

Two hours later, Jim packs away the finished homework, letting Bones carry the half-asleep Joanna to bed.

Leonard wakes Jo up just long enough to put on her PJ's and then tucks her in, and reads her a bedtime story. Before joining Jim in the living room sitting next to him giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"Still feeling pukey?"

Leonard finishes his shift and heads to pick up Jo. Happy it was a peaceful day knowing they are a rare thing aboard The Enterprise.

"Popsicle we are home." Jo says skipping into their quarters.

"Hey Jim, how are you feeling?" He asks coming in and giving Jim a brief kiss.

"I'm great." Jim grins and plants a big wet one on his husband. Jo just giggles and carries her things into her room.

"So I talked to the Talaxians." Jim says.

"About?" Jim's not really sure what else can be said. He knows Bones is right, knows he'll go along with his plan in the end because it's what's best for their kids. And that's all Jim wants.

But it doesn't make it hurt any less and he's not sure if Bones will really understand that.

Leonard sighs a little "About how your feeling, I know you're not happy about leaving the ship." He says, "Talk to me." He says stroking his hand through Jim's hair.

"I love you. And Jo and this baby and I want what's best for all of us and I know that that's taking a year or two...but that doesn't mean I want to lose my ship as the alternative. It doesn't mean I'll hate every fucking minute on Earth any less or that it won't hurt to see my ship take off without me. I've spent my entire captaincy working to make this ship fit for families and as selfless as I may seem, I just did it for us..."

"If you're going to hate every minute Jim, the kids will pick up on that." He says, "Just because it's fit for them to be here, doesn't mean it's the place for them. We are senior officers Jim, we'd still be working all the time." He sighs. "I want you happy, but I also want what's best for the baby and Jo."

"Give me a minute Jim" He says moving into the bath room, to get Jo out of the tub and into her PJ's he takes a moment to tuck her in before coming back, and cuddling up with Jim.

"I am sorry Jim." he sighs "You have any ideas?"
