Leonard nods a little as Jim speaks, "That's right Jo, Jim and I will never be gone for very long, and you'll never be along, like Jim said, you are going to have lots of aunts and uncles who will be around to take care of you and friends to play with if we have to go. But we are going to try and work it out so we both don't have to go at the same

That's Jim's first thought. He knows he's just had surgery, and when it suddenly occurs to him, not that he just had surgery, but that the surgery is over and the year long healing period is about to begin he opens his eyes. M'Benga is leaning over him and the deflated look on his face pops Jim's bubble of excitement right away.
"I'm sorry Captain..." the doctor whispered. "We tried...we did, but your body rejected the AU immediately..."
And god, having your torso sliced open doesn't hurt nearly as much as that...
(AU is artificial uterus. And if you remember, the Enterprise is the first family friendly flagship Starfleet has. They would never be able to take Jim off of it without huge public backlash, being as that is common knowledge and Jim saved the goddamn earth. He would only have to be off-duty completely for the birth and then the 3 months before the child could enter daycare. With Spock there to be acting captain for that period of time, there's no real reason for Jim to leave the ship, not when there is at least ( ... )

[ Well not only from a starfleet stand point but from a Bones freaking out stand point. Because he is safety freak and I see Bones wanting everything planed to a T and wanting them to take time off to have the baby, and he would want these things to happen on earth. Where he has more control.]

(Now that I could see. But Jim would probably be like "Bones, you've done 5 c-sections this year". And sit right back down in his Captain's chair.)

[ see bones would view it as this is my kid, and my husband, and he would want things as smooth as possible. Not leaving the second Jim gets Preggers but around five or six months, also he would want to take time off because no matter how awesome the daycare was he wouldn't put a 3 month old in daycare, he would want the time off to bond with the kid and let Jim heal as well and bond as a family.
He would have the mentality of this is my kid too, and if you want to do this I'll support you and want it too, but I am going to have some say as well Jim.
It's just how my bones would roll with it.]

Leonard says and he lets Jim get some rest and since he's up he just heads to his office to catch on paper work and check his appointments for the day.
A few hours later he is seeing patients but ever so often he goes in and checks on Jim.

"Yeah, I saw before she took the pictures away. Will this new baby be goopy too?"
"Just for 10 minutes or so." Jim said. "But you'll get to see it once it's all nice and clean and cute."

"You are going to be the best big sister kiddo." Leonard smiles working on his own food.
"I have a lot of homework tonight." Jo says a moment later
"We'll start it after dinner baby, alright?" Leonard says.
"Okay." She nods
"How are you feeling Jim?" He asks the smile he hasn't been able to get off his face all day still in place.

Jo giggles and dumps hers too, before running off to get her bookbag.
Two hours later, Jim packs away the finished homework, letting Bones carry the half-asleep Joanna to bed.

"Still feeling pukey?"

"Popsicle we are home." Jo says skipping into their quarters.
"Hey Jim, how are you feeling?" He asks coming in and giving Jim a brief kiss.

"So I talked to the Talaxians." Jim says.

But it doesn't make it hurt any less and he's not sure if Bones will really understand that.

"Give me a minute Jim" He says moving into the bath room, to get Jo out of the tub and into her PJ's he takes a moment to tuck her in before coming back, and cuddling up with Jim.
"I am sorry Jim." he sighs "You have any ideas?"
