Leonard nods a little as Jim speaks, "That's right Jo, Jim and I will never be gone for very long, and you'll never be along, like Jim said, you are going to have lots of aunts and uncles who will be around to take care of you and friends to play with if we have to go. But we are going to try and work it out so we both don't have to go at the same ( Read more... )

"Pancakes and scrambled eggs for Jo, scrambled eggs, bacon and black coffee for you and apple slices with yogurt and ginger ale for me." Jim said, sitting the various plates on the table just as Jo came bounding out, all bright pink and yellow.

"Hi Popsicle! Are you feeling better today?"

"That I am, Princess. I'm feeling so much better, in fact, that I'm taking you to school today." He said, taking a seat at his own plate.

"Yay." she smiles climbing into her seat. "I'm happy you are feeling better Papa."

Leonard smiles and tucks into his breakfast. "Jim is going to pick you up from school today darlin'"

"Okay Daddy."

Jim dips an apple slice into his yogurt, eating slowly while he waits for Jo to finish up. Bones doesn't have to be in sickbay for another half hour, so Jim stands, handing Jo her bag and kissing Bones' cheek. "We'll see you after work, Daddy." He teases, before grabbing Jo's hand and leading her out of their quarters.

Leonard rolls his eyes and laughs, he clears the dishes off the table and does them before heading down to medical.

Thankfully, Jo doesn't seem to notice anything wrong between her Dad and Step-Dad and they manage to get her into bed a few hours later without any awkward questions.

Jim goes straight to the shower without a word, but doesn't take long. He's got a towel around his waist, another rubbing at the back of his head as he crosses the bedroom. He doesn't say anything, just waiting, knowing Leonard will tear into him when he's good and ready.

Leonard doesn't lay into Jim he figures it's not worth it, Jim wouldn't listen anyway so he cleans the kitchen and goes to his desk to get more of his paper work done.

If Jim wants to talk Jim can talk to him but Leonard is tired of trying to talk to Jim about how he is feeling about this. Jim has never listened to him on anything else why would he listen to him now.

After a bit, Jim went to find his husband. Stepping into the room, he leaned against the desk, watching Leonard for a moment before he spoke.

"What else did you want to talk about?"

"Your not gonna listen to me so what's the point?" he sighs scrubbing his hands up and down his face.

Jim and Eleanor are laughing at something Joanna said when he comes in.

"There you are!" His mother grins. "Now, come, come, tell me what you three called for before Jo's head explodes."

Leonard laughs and comes into the room "Jim you want to tell her or should we let Jo?"

As soon as she's given an option, Jo blurts "POPSICLE IS HAVING A BABY!"

Jim laughs and explains the situation to a bewildered Eleanor. By the time he's finished, she's grinning through tears. "I'm so happy for you!"

Leonard smiles at his mom and they chat for awhile and she is happy to let them live with her for awhile until the baby comes and until they are able to find there own place if they decide to stay.

After the phone conversation leonard is happily sitting on the couch reading some non work related material on his PADD, a content grin on his face.

"Yeah...my back's gonna be killing me when we get there, all I'm gonna want to do is sleep." Jim replies.

He knows Bones isn't going to let it go and so they'll talk about it and compromise just like they did before. He knows it scares Bones, but Jim kind of chalks it up to a win. Bones and Jocelyn divorced because they fought all the time, and so do Jim and Leonard but the difference is that they've learned how to be mature about it. And on all but a few things (like Leonard's late shifts and Jim's recklessness), they always manage to come together in a compromise that makes them both happy.

"Well we are almost there Darlin'" He smiles. "Another 30 minutes or so."

"Good... 'cuse I have to go to the bathroom." a slightly whiney voice says from the back seat.

"Jo, you just went." Jim turns.

"Can you hold it another 30 minutes?" He asks and she nods. "You sure?"

"Yeeeees, Papa."

Leonard shakes his head he knew they should have stopped before they turned off the main highway. But they eventually make it to the McCoy house and Jo runs from the car into the house to the bath room, her Gran on the front porch laughing to her self a little.

Jim huffed. "Bones, that's the same thing! You keep saying you don't think I'm selfish but then turning around to say I'm acting like my opinion is the only one that matters. Pussyfooting is the same thing as half-communicating-..."

He stops and sighs, moving to the edge of the bed, reaching up to turn Bones to face him. "Okay. I'm sorry. I'm a brat. My opinion is not the only one that matters. I still don't want you to do the surgery. But. I want us to talk about it. Like reasonable, civil adults. Like we did before, remember? Don't you remember how much easier and quicker we got to a solution when we talked instead of bullshitting around and fighting and dodging? So. Let's start over ( ... )

"I don't like it, I'm not going to like it, and I am never going to be happy about it, but fine, we'll do it your way I don't wanna talk about this anymore." He shakes his head because Jim doesn't get it and he is tired. "You need to eat something, I'll make you some food what do you want?"

Jim grabbed his hand. "That was supposed to be the part where you told me your side and then we compromised..."

"There is no compromise for this Jim. Either I do the surgery or I don't. " He shrugs a little. "Don't worry about it, I learn to deal with it. Jim it'll be okay eventually." He shrugs yeah this is going to hurt him for a long time a very long time but he's beyond caring anymore he just doesn't want to fight anymore.
