what, you're pressing the release switch and the flap won't pop? do you hear the mechanism activating when you hit the switch? if so, it could just be stuck. if you hear the release lever being tripped, you could try gently prying the flap open. if nothing happens when you hit the switch, i'd definitely be wary of trying to open it any other way. i guess call one of the dealerships and explain your plight, maybe if you explain that you may HAVE to damage it in order to get the fuel in, if you eventually get the money and have to take it in to get it fixed maybe they'll cut you a break. vws are known for their electrical problems. what year/model is it? i have a friend that works at a volkswagen dealership and is VERY good at what he does - he's very knowledgable about all their little 'quirks'. he might have some suggestions.

yeah, the button doesnt make any electrical noises and the trunk does work. i was going to call the closest dealership today to ask them what they think i should do and if they didnt suggest anything i was going to pry it open with a screwdriver. [i wouldnt have thought of wrapping it with electrical tape and would have regretted that hard core.]

thank you for going through the trouble to find out the best ways to fix it, youre such a doll.

ill keep you posted!
