I'm not currently planning a wedding, but I have planned one before. Here's what I tell folks re: wedding planning.
1) The purpose of a wedding is to get legally married in front of a group of people you love. All the rest is extra.
2) The purpose of a reception is to celebrate your wedding with people you love. Balloons, favors, booze, chicken parm--all extra and optional.
3) You will be flooded with well-meaning people asking questions of you ("What kind of flowers?" "What kind of mints?") and offering their help. Let them help you. If you don't care about the flavor of mints/color of napkins, let them choose.
As to making it work, know yourself and treat yourself and your wife with respect. You'll do well. :-)
I don't know which part of this irritates me more - the part where you assume that no one is reading (when I have repeatedly told you that I will always read anything you write) or the part where you casually mention that you're already married and say not to tell anyone. Seriously? Do you realize who you're talking to? Jerkface. :P
