Yeah, passively When Twitter sends me an SMS with an update I read it (most of the time anyway >_>), I never go and check for the updates it fails to send me, or for people I don't have set up SMS notifications for though.... And I rarely post... If I do it's usually a reply
One reason I stopped using Twitter was their cookie expiration... I hate having to login to anything on a daily basis.
The crux of social networks is the social part... especially if you're anti-social like me. I've come to realize that I hate most everybody on my Livejournal friends list (except for you and a couple of others.) There needs to be a social network for anti-social people.

I've found Twitter to be massively more useful when you have the right client.
Try TwitterFox for FireFox, or Twitterfon for the iPhone/iPod.
