i think when you're immersed in "southern white trash" culture you don't pay attention to this/are blissfully ignorant. it wasn't until we talked about it that i even knew there was a stigma attached to loving ranch. i am a hidden valley purist. only the best for this palate! i mean, i make pasta salad with ranch, i bake my qorn chick'n with it - i put it on my hot dogs and mac 'n' cheese! the idea that what i eat makes me some kind of yokel is just another way to pigeonhole or grossly stereotype southerners, i think.

I've encountered judgement of ranch dressing enjoying people since my teen years. A while ago, I had a co-worker who got so angry when he talked about people who like ranch dressing I imagined he probably kept a few of them in a pit in his basement, he was that hateful and judgmental about it. (Really, the guy should be a character in a parody of a crime drama)
