It's been hard. For years. Harder now.
I saved him from ruining a pork tenderloin the other day - he was going to fry it in apple cider vinegar with capers in a pan. (Don't ask) I don't eat meat much at all, but knowing that my father was going to eat it, I had to intervene. I presented it as a "let's cook together and have fun" situation. I seasoned it, seared it in a pan, and continued to cook it in the oven. I kind of took over in the kitchen. My nephew was so offended, he refused to eat it. My father liked it and quietly thanked me for taking over.
This is how most situations go down with him.

I hope he can get the help he needs. Ideally, he could telecon with a therapist. Sounds like he wouldn't be willing to do that though. :(
