Room 303, Saturday morning

Destiny would have it that Leto thought that this morning was a good day to call Alice, whom he hadn't spoken to for a while. Little did he suspect that the message he left ended up somewhere completely different.

Perhaps he should have been suspicious when he received a message himself later on, but he didn't think about it and just responded in a Read more... )

"Let's see how long it takes to actually reach one another," she laughed, leaving another cryptic message for an unknown recipient.

"I imagine it will take some time," Leto replied, and accepted this challenge by leaving another
message.

"Perhaps we're going about this all wrong," Alice mused, after leaving another message of her own. "If I'm trying to call you, perhaps I should dial someone else entirely. What was your message, at any rate? The one I didn't get."

He looked at her. "I wanted to tell you I missed you." Then he got a mischievous look in his eyes and dialled Ghani's number and left a message.

"I missed you, as well," Alice said, her face growing more serious. "I was calling to say rather sentimental things, except I never get the words right for those. I suppose we've never bothered much with words, have we?"

"Words communicate one thing, but some emotions don't translate well into words." He reached for her hand again, then leaned close, suddenly feeling the need to kiss her.

"Most don't," she agreed, softly, returning the kiss. "At least, not the important ones, it seems. One would think someone would fix that, but perhaps it's apples and oranges."

She rambled about the strangest things, during intimate moments. Perhaps it was just nerves.

He felt a need to invite her to stay overnight, but he had a roommate now, which was inconvenient. Anyway, he kissed her again, now with more urgency, which might also be a way to point out how unnecessary words could be sometimes.

Words might have helped that particular conundrum, as she could have noted that she was perfectly willing to toss Kyle out to his own devices for the evening. But even those particular words could wait, because kissing him seemed far more important right now than any of the rest of the details.

Perhaps they could get to that later? Because at least Kyle hadn't moved in just a week ago.

Leto leaned his forehead against hers, his hands slipping on to her hips. "I've missed you."

Her own arms were sliding around his waist. There was always time, later. To find words and untangle the meanings hiding behind them.

"And I, you," she said. "That was my message, that I've missed you and that I care for you and then I decided, it was a far better message delivered here."

'Here' being the welcome safe space of his arms, naturally.

"I wonder who got our messages," he said, although he wasn't overly concerned. "I'm glad you came." That was more important.

"I hope whoever it was knows how deeply and sincerely I care about them," she laughed, easily. "And I'm glad, as well. I should stop by more often. I'm not sure why I haven't."

She frowned, somewhat distracted. "I haven't felt like myself, lately."

"How?" Leto asked, gently pushing her hair away from her face.

"I don't know," Alice said. "I have pieces missing. If I looked down and my left leg had no kneecap, I'd say, there we are, that's what it is. Perhaps I've scattered myself too thin."

"Isn't that a reason for an adventure?" Leto asked, trying to use Alice's logic. "A quest for what is missing."
