Ok, my aunt sent me this FW a while ago and we started to message back and forth about it. I don't think that I'm explaining myself very well to her or that she is actually getting what I'm trying to say. It's kind of a lengthy thing but it starts w/ the original post and goes on to our subsequent messages.

this is my aunt's latest reply:
"Mmmmmm, we'll just have to "agree to disagree" on the point of the FW. I really don't see the USA trying to eradicate Muslims. And as for protecting ourselves, I'm sure the likes of you and I will never know the whole truth about the necessity of that. It's why we should pray for our leaders, and I confess that I don't often remember to do that. I know what I should discipline myself to do; every time I sit down to read any news items, I should first say a prayer. At my age and with my failing memory, I have to use prompts like that."

I have to agree with you on the offensive tone of the FW. I think something that interests me is that people seem more upset that someone implied that an important historical figure MAY have appreciated the Quran, then they did about the fact that someone was using one to swear an oath under.

As for Ellison, I met him when he was still in the MN House, and honestly I think there are a lot of people who would probably not care what religion he follows or what book he uses to swear in if they had a conversation with him about the things he really wants to fight for.

I'll stop babbling now..
