That vaccine is a steaming pile of fail. Pharmaceutical companies are not philanthropic organizations no matter how much they act like it -- Merck least of all. Merck is asshole central. I'll bet they didn't even feel bad that Vioxx was all hella killing people.
And another thing. Suppose you get the shot and you're protected from four or five strains of HPV. So what? If you're having casual sex, you still have to worry about the other fifteen to twenty strains, at least ten other STDs and pregnancy, which necessitates protection. I think the vaccine creates a false sense of security that our generation doesn't need. Information gets distorted, and "vaccination against certain strains of HPV" could turn into "a shot that prevents STDs." If the information gets passed along through the words of uneducated people, then kids in the ghetto (who are at the tail end of misinformation and failed education) could be even more fucked than they already are. And that's only one demographic.

Congratulations, Merck, on making a completely unnecessary vaccine and trying to turn yourselves into this generation's Jonas Salk.
