I know... I work right downtown, and yesterday, all the cop cards and ambulances etc we're driving right by our windows... We knew something really bad had happened once 8 or 9 had already gone by.
It's weird being here. I always here about these things happening in other city's, but never the one I'm in.
I'm watching the news and reading newspapers and I have to hold back not to cry. I mean, I don't know any of these people personnaly, but it's still my city and I feel for them as if I knew them.
It was scary too, cause I finish work at 3:30, and by then yesterday they still didn't know if the killer was alone or if there were others on the loose. The metro was shut down and I don't know the buses, and heck, I didn't even want to poke my nose outside I was so afraid...
We're getting lot's of reactionary releases today and Concordia and others wanting to help...
I emailed all the people that I could think of that live in Montreal to make sure they and their loved ones were okay. It turns out my cousin has friends who teach at the school, but they were all okay. So fucked up! I'm worried that this may further marginalize and stigmatize young persons who dress in a manner that could be identified as 'goth' or 'punk'. It's unfortunate, yet so typical, that the media and people in general often tend to blame or sitgmatize an entire group of persons because of the actions of individuals who are (accurately or inaccurately) identified as belonging to such and such a group. I share your sigh.
