Too Pregnant

Why, oh why am I up??!??!! I *so* desperately want to sleep -- I need to sleep -- and my body is just not cooperating. I specifically spent the night at my house (i.e. not at the farm) hoping that a night in bed without two kids crawling in and out of bed, on top of me, etc., would give me a better chance of sleeping, but alas….. here I sit at ( Read more... )

I hate insomnia during pregnancy, especially in the weeks/days before the baby is due to be born. You're right, it IS a lot of work to do on no sleep. That's how Jacob was born! It sucked. I was exhausted even before I was trying to birth him. The OBs had given me Ambien, but I didn't take it because I was afraid to... it's a pretty hardcore sleeping pill, IMO, but "safe" for pregnancy like oh so many things supposedly are. Looking back, I really ought to have just taken the damn stuff. I think things would have gone a lot better had I been able to actually SLEEP the week before Jacob was born!!!!

With Jared I was in major denial that I was "in labor", lol. I finally decided to go to the hospital and discovered I was 100% effaced and 8cm dilated :) It still took 8 hours for the sucker to be born, but that's way better than the 28 hour marathon (induced due to preeclampisa) labor (on top of five or more days of no sleep) with Jacob!

Best wishes with sleep and that all else falls in place with good rest!!!

I have actually taken a pregnancy safe, OTC sleep aid three different times this week, and I can't even feel it -- it's like I haven't taken anything at all. Last night I finally took half of one (it was so late -- I didn't want to be groggy when I got up) and it did help. Who knows. My body is crazy -- there are two people living in it. ;<)

I always say that no matter how "natural" pregnancy is, it is still all about gestating foreign DNA, which isn't exactly our natural state of being. That we can do it is wonderful, yes, but it's not necessarily easy for all women!

I'm glad you got some sleep! It IS hard to birth a baby after no sleep :(

Rest up as much as you can!!!!

Perhaps you could take a page from many menopausal women, who have renamed "hot flashes" "power surges"--is that more acceptable than "contraction"? :)

Your students are so fortunate to have you!

I'm thinking of you. Consider this a virtual hug, and virtual casserole!

My hypnobirthing instructor always called them "surges," which is very much what they are. No matter what I call them, I still have this block to accepting that I'm feeling them. But perhaps that is also why labor goes well with me, i.e. I don't have contractions. :<)

No. :<( I've been on the breast pump all night -- I'm lactating quite nicely, but not labor. I'll keep you posted.
