Ar...thur...? [Ludwig almost didn't want to know, but he's been watching for too long to let this pass without at least ASKING] What are you doing?

[Glances up at Ludwig before looking back down at his trinket, just finishing it off and starting to tie the ribbon on.]

I'm making corn dollies, it's about to turn to winter and they'll keep bad spirits out.

[Says this like it's the most normal thing in the world.]

SO LATE, SORRY. D: dogsnwurst October 3 2010, 02:17:55 UTC
. . . Corn dollies. [Right. English is SO much stranger than German. Ludwig just keeps repeating this in his head to make himself feel better for not knowing what Arthur is talking about]

Is that... something to be eaten?

[Quietly scoffs and shakes his head.]

No, you don't eat them.

[Picks one of the corn dollies up, holding it by the loop.]

You nail them to a doorframe and they'll keep the bad spirits out during winter.

[Carries on making the corn dolly, not noticing the Canadian at all.]

-Blinks in surprise at the sudden voice. Odd, he didn't hear anyone coming up to him.-

Hm?

-Looks up at Matthew, setting a finished corn dolly to the side-

Is something the matter?

[Would usually strop about Teagan using his stuff instead of getting her own, but other than her and mum nobody else knows how to make them and there's still a lot to be done.]

I don't think I've got enough wicker.

[That or she's off putting apples on graves somewhere.]

Oh good.

Now we just need to find somewhere to make a bonfire without getting kicked out.

A bit late to tag, but... grumpytalia October 1 2010, 23:30:24 UTC
[Watches him while sitting under a nearby tree, and is impressed by the craftsmanship so far. In fact, he's a little interested in making one himself, but he doesn't really want to go up to Arthur and ask for some of the material he already has. Feliciano doesn't really feel up to gathering some of the material himself at this time.

The teen eyes the pile surrounding Arthur and wonders if he could swipe some of the sticks and sheaves without anyone noticing.

Not like it'd be a huge crime if he took some, right?]

Not at all! rules_the_waves October 2 2010, 22:20:23 UTC
[Arthur is far too concentrated on making his little trinkets to notice the Italian staring over, instead he's just calmly going about making one after the other, completely engrossed in his work. It's not so much a high level of craftsmanship as it is experience, he's been making these things every autumn for as long as he can remember.]

[Watching Arthur]

[He did not follow him here, really!]

Artie? What are those things for?

[Glances up at the American for a brief moment before concentrating on his work again.]

My name is Arthur, not Artie.

And if you must know they're to keep bad spirits away during the winter.

That's better.

[Blinks and looks down at his newest corn dolly.]

I'm not too sure, but they certainly work.

For the most part.
