Um. Crap

I was sitting in Touring Ensemble rehearsal yesterday, and I realized that the only times I've ever gotten parts or solos is when I've been up against untrained people my age or younger. Not to say that I've had extensive training; I've been taking voice lessons for almost two years now, and I've been in choir since forever. But when I am up ( Read more... )

Dude, you're being silly.

Seriously, some of the most talented people I know audition for years, possibly decades, before getting anything seriously good. It's part of the game. You keep trying until something works out, and you don't let yourself worry about the other people. You be the best you can be, you remain friendly and easy to work with, and things will work out. As someone who has been in charge of casting a number of things, I will also point out that easy to work with totally trumps talent, and you always seem friendly and energetic, so I think you'll be set in the long run.

Thank you

I think what I'm really worried about is the actual getting-into-college audition. I don't know what'll happen after that, although I accept that it will probably involve taking orders and living in a refrigerator box :-)
Although in college, I do want to take some completely unrelated classes that may or may not help me with a different career if that one fails. (Isn't it great that I'm already preparing for that possibility? I love my parents... >.<') For all I know, a class in archeology or Political Science may prove I have a different calling, hah.
I just hear all of the girls who are also auditioning for the U Arts and Temple music programs, and I get hella intimidated....

I'll tell you to take unrelated classes to, but not in case this fails. As anyone who knows me these days knows, I'm a polisci grad student with an interest in religion. I started school doing a double bachelor's in computer engineering and theater. Sometimes you'll take an amazing class and find an interest you never had before. As to the rest, don't worry about it. Just do your best, and move on with it from there.

I'd totally give you unbiased opinion, but I'm also kind of, uh, musically retarded. So. I'm not really a reliable source!
