I guess that these cases are exceptions, in my mind. And I should have been clearer -- I don't mean so much...wow, this sounds hypocritcal, but I don't mean cartoons such as these. I mean the ongoing blather of artists who "think they're smart", if you know what I mean?

Not really. I usually like political cartoons. Even ones I disagree with are effective enough to make me disagree with them in such a tiny amount of space in a short amount of time- they're a good way to make a lasting point.
