001 - Ave Mathematica.

It's the first week of class and I'm already regretting my decision to accept this position. Of my students, precisely none of them are science majors. I'm not sure who/what I pissed off to get a classroom full of literature and economics students, but I feel as if I need to sacrifice a goat or something to Mathematica in apology. The lit students ( Read more... )

argh, class, why me

I like it when you talk all science-y~♥

Lovely to see you here though! What made you join? Surely it couldn't just have been a need to vent your irritations at the seemingly uneducated masses?

Professors are required to have an online presence so students can contact them, because clearly, email, or coming to my office to see me in person are outdated forms of communication.

Eventually even professors will become outdated, Hiyo-dear~ Surely they can't be that bad?

That seems to about sum up this year's flock of students, yes. I'm not sure how they made it into Todai in the first place.

Now that I think of it, I'm glad none of them are majoring in my field. You can have your literature students back, I don't want them.

And you think I DO want them?

No, but I don't have time to teach them basic grammar and my own subject.

Kashi-kun~! You have one of these things? That's soooo cool~!

Your students sound silly, but...I dunno that stuff about quantum mechanics and I went to Uni too.

I do.

Yes, but presumably you didn't take astronomy on the assumption that it would be a bird course.

Nooooo~! I took proper physics 'cause kaa-san said it would be more useful for mechanics. And chemistry because it would be fun~

How're you doing, Kashi-kun?

Are you implying that astronomy isn't proper physics?

What is it with Japan's youth these days?!

Lower birth rate, fewer students. Universities competing for students, rather than the reverse.

That's terrible.

And yet I don't see you producing offspring.

I'm doing what I can to fix some of those problems, but I teach middle school, and it's my second year teaching, so you've got a while until my kids get to you, Wakashi, sorry.

With any luck I won't be a teacher by then.

Aw, you mean you won't be teaching when Arashi is old enough to go to college?

Not at Todai, at least.
