Old Man

My geology students were trying to guess my age today. All of the guesses came out less than 40. I told them that I am younger than the number of questions they will get on their final exam.

I think that I was around 38 in that picture. I was around 45 in this one.

I would have been with lenny_wick and said early 30s. About 32 or 33.

Why were they guessing your age?

A woman in her 30's started it by implying that we were about the same age.

What is sad is even with the gray hair I have I am still pegged for a "tween."

When I went to Houston in March the flight attendant thought I was 14, when I went to see Rent the movie theater thought my hubby was my dad, and when I went to see another movie, I was thought to be under 13 so they wanted to give me the child's discount.

I do think that I am on the other side of a political "generation gap," though. Even most of the lefties I know now grew up admiring Ronald Reagan and became disillusioned later. There are very few of us remaining who remember the ugly side of Republicanism going back to the speeches that Pat Buchanan wrote for Tricky Dick and Spiro Agnew.

you do look quite young. it helps a lot to not be grey or balding - most people (and especially college students who don't know what to look for) have a hard time guessing anyone's age. i'm generally taken for 10 years younger than i really am, but i think it's starting to catch up a little. i'm not going to poll anyone.

but agnew, you're making me feel old! i once had some rolling papers with agnew's caricature on them. i don't think i was aware of buchanan during that era, though.

and that makes two posts on my frieneds list with the subject 'old man'. the other one is 44.
