Mrs. Smith said she'll write me a letter of recommendation. I need to find one more person by next Friday. I don't know who to ask. I've been panicking lately. Especially now. She just showed us the career passports of former students. They looked great. Too great. I have no volunteer service, I've done only one highschool extracurricular activity ( Read more... )

wtf are you talking about. do you think that 'community service' is everything?? if YOU do, all i can say is why do you think people DO community service? geniune concern? no. people do it largely for pretentious, obnoxious reasons. i know this because that's why i did community service when i was in high school. and dont you also think that colleges too know WHY students do community service? yes. they do.

so, am i encouraging you to do nothing? no. but, you can do something to genuinely "give back" and it won't matter if you have 20 examples, one or two is enough.

you act as though when you turn in your "career passport" its over, but believe it or not, you can (and will) edit it after you turn it in to Mrs. Smith (or whomever..)

besides, one look at your art and they arent going to give one shit about whether or not you were a candy striper.

peace.

Hannah,
Duh... you DO have community service. You painted for midfest... If you still need a letter of recommendation, let me know. I can talk to the head of the history exhibit and get you a formal letter stating you were a volunteer (and not for pretentious reasons). Also, as a former co-worker, fellow artist and (above all else) friend, I'll write you something that'll knock their socks off. I've done it for Brendan and I think it really helps to have a personal recommendation along with the professional ones.
