Beautiful! Our strawberries are getting pretty big and still blooming. This is my first year growing them (and I know I should have probably pinched the blooms back, but I couldn't bring myself to do it) and I was wondering, do you stake them when the fruit gets so heavy the weight of the berries pull the stem to the ground?

Oh, and did the tomatoes make it?

Pinch those blooms! DO IT!
its hard, but its totally worth it. This is our third year with strawberries. The first yea we painfully picked the flowers, and the second year i swear to god i filled a gallon bag w/ berries every 3-5 days. It was GREAT.
I didn't really see any need to stake the strawberries, the fruits were heavy but not so much so that they were the problem.

i went to the garden today and all but one tomato made it! So that wasn't too bad. And I replaced it with a sun gold plant i bought at the farmers market.

I think you've convinced me to pinch. : )

And that's great about only losing one tomato! We had a hail storm here last night and I'm almost afraid to walk out and see if there was any damage. Kinda amazing how you start to feel so protective over plants.

can you explain this to me? th is is my first year growing strawberries and i didn't know you were supposed to pinch the blooms. does this keep them from growing fruit? maybe i'll pinch the ones that haven't started turning into berries yet, and the ones that already have small green berries on them i'll leave as-is
