top soil vs. potting soil

May 24, 2007 15:12

I bought some soil to move some seedlings into bigger pots as well as make a pretty hanging basket of fuscias. I realized the soil was a lot darker and denser than what I was used to.

Turns out I bought top soil instead of potting soil.
Is this bad? Should I repot everything?

No, your flowers will be just fine. The only issue I could see would be that you might have some drainage issues because potting soil contains a lot of perlite, whereas top soil has none. Just be careful when you are watering and you should be golden. :)

so i should be more aware about possible flooding issues?

Yes, just make sure everything's draining well. It should all settle fairly quickly. The veggies will be fine as well. I'm also a container gardener and I've used a bit of topsoil before because I picked up the wrong bag. You probably won't notice any difference within a week or so. :)
