[Canada didn't mean to surprise you, England. But just starting out with 'father' is the most straight-forward way to explain it to regular people. (Because there is nothing odd about John's name. At all. He is who he is, right?)]

Yes, I'm that Doctor John Watson, friend of Sherlock Holmes. Depending on where you're from though, you may be surprised to find out we're from the year 2010.

And yes, we do solve cases, occasionally. Less often than Sherlock would like since we got here.

Ah- sorry. That is to say, Sherlock from 2010, and Holmes from the late 1800s. Just a bit of a convention, too keep them straight...
