one more rant - Nurofen Plus

Jun 12, 2010 21:03

Our laws have just changed and now the painkiller nurofen plus is held behind the counter at the pharmacy.  NP is the only painkiller I have discovered that completely eases period pain, and what I call ''ovulation pain' which comes 2 weeks later, and I find the most painful.  Generally over the month, I take up to a total of six tablets (ie. 3 ( Read more... )

The law came in on the 31st of May. I'm surpised you didn't know about it cause it was all over the news.
It's not just you that is being questioned - everyone is getting the same third degree - you have to justify your need for it.
I'm fairly sure that most of the world limits the amount of codeine you can get in a drug and we are one of the last ones to follow.
Us regular users are paying the price for those that are addicted to it.
The best thing for you to do would be to tell the doctor why you need it, next time you go and get a prescription so you don't get the third degree every time you go to the chemist.

Yeah I did hear about it. I just didn't realise that being put behind the counter meant you had to justify your use of it. I have enough at home to probably last me 5 years at the rate I take it (but don't tell any pharmacies). When I'm next at the doctor (doesn't happen regularly) I will follow your suggestion - I didn't realise you could do that. See my general naivity when it comes to prescription drugs.

Ibuprofen can only be bought "free" up to 400mg per tablet here. Anything over that you even need a doctor's prescription!!!

It didn't sound familiar so I googled it. It looks like it's got codeine in it so you would definitely have to have a prescription for it here in the U.S.

There are certain allergy medications that are kept behind the counter here because people use them to make meth. They started that several years ago. They record your drivers license when you buy it.

i have no clue if you can buy it without prescription of your doc. i never buy that product. But i do know that most painkillers need a docs-prescription here.

We can still buy nurofen and ibuprofen here over the counter. I don't know how strong they are but I sympathize with you on the period pain.
