Oh, goodness. =DD I'm so excited now. I hope this works out, because I've wanted to see Sabriel on screen ever since I read it... ^^
They'd better get a good composer. >.> The score can make or break a movie, in my opinion... mm, wonder who'd do well with a movie like this. o_o; A Thomas Newman score would be good... he's not all that well known, I don't think, but pretty versatile from what I've heard, and there were some lovely rich, dark themes in his score for Cinderella Man. Which is just the sort of thing that would suit a story like Sabriel. And Harry Gregson-Williams did such an excellent job with the Narnia soundtrack, but that had a much lighter atmosphere overall and I didn't particularly care for the listening value of most of the darker tracks, although they worked well for the film itself...
You obviously know a lot more about than I do! I'm mostly concerned with the script, though from the sounds of it that aspect should be fantastic! Capote was very well-written.
Ooh, I'm excited. I'm glad Garth Nix is co-writing the script - it's less likely they'll screw it up if the authjor's helping write it.
Sabriel's one of the books I have mixed feelings about it becoming a movie - if they do a good job, then wonderful, I'd love to see it; but if they do a bad job, I think I'd cry.
I am glad there's someone else writing too, though, because writing novels is nothing like writing scripts.
I will be so disappointed if this movie sucks. I think it would translate really well to screen, provided it doesn't get The Golden Compass treatment. :\
i just hope they don't ruin it!!! im going to wait for the hardcore, reviews to come out, before i go to see it. there have been too many instances where my faivourite books have been ruined for me by awful films!!! ciao!!! xxx I CAN'T WAIT!!!- all the same!!!
I think it will be immensely successful.youngdbApril 25 2008, 07:04:22 UTC
I think that it will be successful because it combines several elements. Though I think the Clayr should be slotted in the first movie at least in a brief appearance because their really unique.
Sabriel combines horror elements with the Victorian era elements with magic which almost give it some appeal to Harry Potter fans as it combines the old with at least newer period. It is very intriguing. I am very excited.
Sabriel is my favorite fantasy series really, I have read each book twice to three times. It is the only one that has appealed to me really deep.
