Oh, No Wedding Planning

Jun 02, 2013 01:42

I swear, I'm going to talk about something other than wedding planning here soon, especially now that we've picked a date. It's just been wedding-a-palooza here lately. It's been a little annoying because I've had a lot of writing to do, but haven't gotten any of it done. Last Saturday at the bridal shop we bought this wedding organizer, which is ( Read more... )

Very serious organizational skills! That's not really my area. Hopefully, the organizer I bought will be of great help.

Thank you!

I'm hoping that we can keep New York on the table since it could be one of our relatively cheaper options.

I tried to have a discussion with Mike the other day about budget but he wasn't really into it. We still have no idea who's paying for what. I know my mom wants to contribute, but I don't know how much she can.

There are definitely areas we're definitely thinking of cutting costs on and doing things ourselves, like the flowers.

If you let people push you into things you don't especially want costs can very easily get out of control. It's your wedding and the two of you need to decide what you want and politely but firmly explain that to your families. {{hugs}}

Britain is a small island. Cardiff is a couple of hours by train from London, and train fares, if bought well in advance, are usually much cheaper than flights. The big airports with transatlantic flights are London (Heathrow and Gatwick), Birmingham and Manchester. Any of those are relatively easy to travel to Wales from. Cardiff airport just isn't big enough to have the cheaper flights.

Good luck, pet - you are going to have to stand up for what you want.

Thanks for the advice and the information about Cardiff and the trains. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Good luck with all the planning! Try not to stress too much, you still have a year to go, just make small decisions every way and you'll figure it all out in no time.

It sounds really annoying Jean and your mum are pushing you like that. I'm sure they mean well, but this is your wedding. You have every right to defend yourself and to tell them 'leave me alone, I want to plan this myself and decide on every detail, it's my special day and my decision to make, so don't influence me.'

Part of me wishes that we had set the date earlier so I knew in advance we had a lot of time, before I went a little crazy trying to figure out what dress I was going to get. But I'm glad I got that out of the way and knowing we have a little time to plan does make my anxiety a lot less.

While my mom and Jean can definitely annoy me sometimes, I do what their opinions because I really don't know what I'm doing and I would like their input and advice. But the final decisions are mine and Michael's. If I say I don't like something I don't want them to try and browbeat me into it because they have a coupon they want to use or because they deem the decision unimportant. I'm definitely going to have to get better at putting my foot down.
