Searching for a new stage, Samurai Gackt marches out from Kawanakajima[2] to Hollywood.

“Bunraku” has its origins in the Japanese traditional performing art of bunraku[1], and it harmoniously incorporates various related elements, such as origami and games, creating a unique action movie.  It is the revenge drama of a wanderer, the Drifter, played ( Read more... )

If anything, Gackt will probably be compared to Rain, the Korean pop star who will be starring in the Speed Racer movie, as an Asian rock star moving into western films.

I completely agree with you! I was at first really shocked and stupendously happy that Gackt will be in a "hollywood" movie, but I am really afraid of how brutal the critics will be here. They are all so clueless with Asian movies and actors and cultures. I don't want them to dissect it in a mean way just for the sake of being mean (in which that just seems to be the trend so that people will pay more attention to what they're saying). I hope Gackt gets his due with who he is, not what the media will try to spin him into some sort of sell out j-pop glory hog. I want them to show him as the amazing, compassionate, quirky, eccentric, talented, and beautiful (not OMFG, that's a guy??? That's not a real man!) person he is. His spirit will shine on film, I hope! Maybe like how Orlando Bloom did as Legolas in Lord of the Rings.

Oh, THank you so much for the translations! I really am glad you posted this and your thoughts. They are both very much appreciated.

I like that! :D Yes, I hope so too~ I hope he shines through the film no matter how it's received by the critics. ^^; As his fans, though, I'm sure we'll have no trouble being impressed by him in this film. I'm really happy too that he's going to be in a Hollywood movie~ so much can come out of it. :D

You're welcome~ and thanks for your comment! really appreciate it~

Excited! I know what you mean about critics being a worry. But you know what, Gackt has probably faced down a lot more criticism in his life than we realize, and I'm sure he can take on Hollywood. At any rate, those who do get a glimpse of his spirit on film have the chance to be won over and learn something despite what any of the "movie buffs" have to say.
And thank you so much for sharing and translating!!!

Oh so true~ The critics will be critics! It's a chance for him to win over more fans though, and that is really exciting. :D

You're welcome!

You know what, comparing Gackt to Jet Li or Jackie Chan would be pretty sad considering the number of years Jackie and Jet have had (as in they were pretty young when they started with martial arts).

I do hope they don't compare him to them in a degrading sense since it would hardly be a good influence in the public's eye. =(
