Almost Moved

J&I looked at a house last night. We weren't really planning a move. I can't imagine trying to pack a house with this terror toddler, let alone Sam on the Move. This house, however, had much more land than we have at the moment (~12 acres). It had been a horse farm, if having that much land and a stable for up to three horses counts as a horse ( Read more... )

The house is paid off in eight years or less so anytime after that, we are Idaho-bound. It could have been sooner with this other house, if it didn't need so much work. Of course, if J's job falls through, we'll head out sooner rather than later, even though NH has the lesser tax burden.

I think not having student loans helped us immensely in being able to afford the house. We also opted not to have a large wedding and counsel others to do likewise if owning a home is important to them. Some follow it; some don't. While having a house is nice, though, it's more important to have food storage.

I'm crossing my fingers at having my house paid off in about 8 years, of course that's on the assumption that I don't have any major expenses and I keep my job/salary where it is. After that I can see scaling back my job/salary big time. Of course if I were 'married' and she were working it could in theory be paid off much much sooner.

I've talked about moving with Becky and she doesn't seem to like that idea. She likes my house and doesn't think I should move from it in the next 9-10 years.

It depends on what you want in the short term and the long term, and how any opportunities presenting themselves along the way help facilitate your goals.

I understand your aversion to colluding with the government-controlled marriage thing, but until and unless the laws change, it certainly facilitates a lot of things such as inheritance issues.

I wanted to comment on your latest post. I am so sorry about your loss. I had to put my cat Kai down 5 years ago next week and it is still an ache in my heart. If I can do anything at all, please let me know.

Thanks. I know I'm not the only one to face this ache, but I wish it didn't have to have happened. *hugs*
