Natasha has been puking in the house. The new house. On the new carpet. It's been 5 times so far...the first two were from eating some small teddy bears that were used as ornamentation on gifts. She's really gotten into chewing in the last few months. We can only give her rawhides under supervision, becase she will chew them until her gums ( Read more... )

Rawhide is nasty stuff and I'd cut that out first. There's been cases of salmonella and botulism related to improperly cured rawhide and god only knows what else is in the stuff. Shepherds are prone to gastrointestinal problems anyway. My sweet Guinness gets four pepcid every morning with breakfast, eats only Prescription Diet I/D (intestinal diet, low in fat, blah, blah, blah) and gets violently ill if he eats just one tiny piece of smoked ham. He and his sister like to chew so they get jumbo greenies on occasion and we've got lots of Kongs and similar toys around the house for them.

You mentioned N barfing up yellow bile, maybe she has allergies. Tess used to gak up at least twice daily until the vet prescibed Clemastin(e), an antihistamine, and that pretty much took care of her problem.

I hate it when they get sick and hope that all goes well with Natasha.

Both our pups (they were littermates, too) always loved their rawhide chewies. I'll mention the issue to C (she was going to be a vet)...so she can pick up some greenies at the pet store. We were going to change her food from Hill's sensitive skin back to light. Maybe the additional fats are settting her off, and she never had any problems on the light. Chunky butt could lose a few pounds anyway ( ... )

You named a shepherd Guinness? Not Warsteiner? Not Beck? Paulaner? Oberdorfer? Spaten?

Though we gave our shepherds Russian names so I guess I can't bag on you too much :)

Here's hoping it's something simple and easy fixable.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed & prayers going out that this is just a minor, temporary thing.

I hate it when crises cluster....
