I've been reading Holmes stories now that I'm done with Dumas, and do you know what I've realized... Holmes mysteries suck. They aren't that interesting, their impossible to solve, and the twist endings aren't particularly good. I've read the novels, I'm going through the short stories, and the stories are just plain poor. The only reason I still ( Read more... )

And what if you read a book where you didn't exactly feel enamoured of the characters but the plot was so good you had to keep reading, hm?

That second-to-last line throws me...but maybe I'm looking at it too closely.

I've actually yet to encounter such a big. The books that stick with me are the ones where the characters are compelling.

Perhaps, perhaps not. I'm the kind of person who would chose the safe route instead of the route I would prefer. In this instance, I would do the first, and then always regret not doing the second.

All righty. It's usually the same for me as well. Actually, I can't think of my own experiences applying to my own scenario.

Thank you. To be honest, I think I am much the same way, and that is why I am trying so hard not to be. I worry I will look around me years later and be disappointed in myself.

See, I fully expect to be disappointed in myself, but at the same time realize that, given the opportunity, I'd do the same again. I'd like to change, but I'm something of a defeatist of the subject.
