This week we began looking at Under Milk Wood. I found acting it out with my drama group to be far more beneficial in understanding the play than actually reading it. It is known as "a play for voices" and was originally designed to be preformed on the radio. Thus, there is very little stage direction and it all sort of jumbles together. When my drama group finally deciphered it, we found it to be a whole lot of dream sequences. I thought the play was very funny and clever, and would work well as a poem. I thought i might attempt my own version of it as a poem.
UNDER CHATS WOOD: THE POEM.
Drowsy Emma is in her bedroom
looking at the stars.
Ever slowly she closes her eyes.
and dreams of clowns in cars!
Nonsense you say?
Well take a look
in the bedroom just next door..
Christine is snoozing, Head on chest.
She sees a talking door!
Nonsense you say?
Well whats this now?
The living room of Clare.
Tucked up in her sofa bed
she now has Purple hair!
Nonsense you say?
Well heres another
While Aggie snores away,
Her bedroom grows vine leaves all around
and monkeys come out to play.
You ask for reason, You ask for cause
I cannot give you meaning!
You shouldnt give it too much thought
After all, they're only dreaming!
I also commented on Christine Cho's LiveJournal entry for week Nine, also on Under Milk Wood. Her entry can be found at

Hi Christine,
I also found under milk wood to be challenging! i could not for the life of me understand what was going on, simply by just reading it! I agree, the lack of chapters or acts, as well as the lack of stage direction in the play is at best, frustrating, because as we both know, the characters have absurd names and have absurd dreams! I did however get assigned this play with my drama group. at first i though "oh no, i have no idea what is going on and what to do!" But my group and i sat and deciphered it, cut out what didnt work for a live preformance and then suddenly i really understood the play, and now, crazily enough, i ended up enjoying it!
Thanks for a great entry! :)
