New York City is internationally renowned as the place a lot of people went to fulfil their dreams. Whether the dreams were the proverbial American one or not is irrelevant - these immigrants were focused, and it's this focus to the point of brusqueness that seemingly drives the city which never sleeps.

The views from bignono's building. You had the West view, taking in the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty and part of the skyline, alongside the North view up onto the city beyond 50th St which takes in most of Central Park.

(NY is laid out like a grid, with avenues running E->W and streets running N ->S)

Awesome recap of the trip. Did you mostly plan out the trip on your own with help from friends?

Yeah, pretty much. dinesha's 'Lonely Planet' guidebook, plus tips from my LJFL and food_porn kept me busy :)

Oh, and Nigella Lawson (gastroporn queen and idol of mine) namechecks NY and American foodstuffs a LOT in her 'Nigella Bites' title. Hence, the visit to the Union Square Cafe Bar to check out their fresh bar nuts at precisely 430pm - and get their recipies for these nuts and their famous garlic potato chips :)

Bored with the U.S.>?
come to Detroit ... or
in lieu of that, listen to music made nearby
that has little to do with the city
aside from homage to some of its lesser-known entertainers
