The Aftermath of the Dance

After the debacle at the party, Anissina started to regret her choices.  Maybe she should have done something different.  Maybe she should have asked Gwendal if it was alright...  But this whole trying to start a relationship thing was difficult and she didn't have much experience with this type of endevour.  She walked down the corridor arm in arm ( Read more... )

"It's fine," Gwendal assured her. It was, however, a nice change that she should apologize for a rash action.

The question, however, for which action was she apologizing? Was it for the dancing with Alford or the invitation to lunch? Safer ground to address the latter.

"He will most likely find an excuse to not join us for lunch." Gwendal gives a sardonic grin. "I seem to scare him."

He comes to an abrupt halt, causing Anissina to jostle against him in the change of momentum. "I left your fan near the benches where Gisela was sitting."

Anissina blinked. "Not join us for lunch? But he has to... And you're not allowed to scare him. He's been through a lot and most of it not very good. He seems to feel a need to please people any way he can, it's how he shows friendship." She turned to Gwendal. "And you should have trusted me more. I should have asked you if you minded me dancing with him, but you should have trusted me. We have something here, I'm not sure what yet but I'd like to explore it more. Please don't let something like this get in the way."

She looked down, blinking away a couple of tears. And because of this, she almost tripped over Gwendal when he stopped.

"It's okay, Gwendal. One of the maids or the soldiers will bring it to my rooms in the morning. There's no need to worry about it. It was only a cheap one from the town anyway. I only got it because it went with my dress." She smiled up at him for being so thoughtful.

He narrowed his eyes, there was a suspicious moisture in her eyes. He sighed heavily and pulled his arm out of her grasp only to drap it over her shoulders, drawing her against his frame as he continued on down the corridor.

"Do not worry, nothing will get in the way." He paused, the image of Alford's attempted kiss of Anissina running through his mind. "But you know that I do not share, regardless of how traumatic one's upbringing might have been, it is no excuse to kiss the woman I love."

'Shit. Did I just say that aloud?'

"Care for most," he amended, praying she didn't catch his slip.

Anissina would have stopped walking, if she hadn't already been stopped.

"Woman you love?!" Anissina breathed the words. "You love me?"

She didn't know what to say. She didn't even notice his coverup. She was blinking hard.

"I think I need to sit down. Yes. Sitting down is good."

And that was what she did. She sat down. On the floor. In the middle of the corridor. And concentrated on keeping breathing.
