Please allow me to introduce myself... [Jim/Bones, Jo, Jocelyn]

Mar 03, 2011 01:54

The last hour of the day had seemed to drag on forever. After that sexy exchange with Bones, Jim couldn’t wait to get to his place, determined to make good on his promise. That brief interlude with Cupcake aside, he’d spent the rest of the afternoon half-hard, plotting ways to make Bones growl his name in that low, ragged drawl that was quickly ( Read more... )

But the room wasn't completely empty. A small girl was sitting on the sofa, looking up from a padd.

"Hi."

To say that small, high-pitched voice was a surprise was an understatement. Jim wheeled around toward the sofa, going still as his eyes fixed on the little girl looking back at him. "Um, hi," Jim replied cautiously, his smile a little surprised. She looked just like the pictures Bones had proudly shown off when he'd returned, one of which was now framed and sitting on the table.

He walked over and sank down on the edge of the sofa, studying her curiously and wondering what she was doing all the way out here. Bones hadn't mentioned that she was visiting, which meant this was a surprise for him, too. "I'm Jim," he said, realizing he had been staring, trying to pick out Bones' features in her face. "And you must be Joanna. Your dad's told me a lot about you."

"Hi Mister Jim," she replied in a soft voice, but her smile grew when she saw his friendly face. "Do you know my daddy? He lives here."

"Sure do," Jim replied with a grin. He relaxed a little when she smiled - she was such a cute little thing, and that smile was familiar-looking. "Your daddy was the very first friend I made when I joined Starfleet."

Belatedly, he wondered what she thought of him just walking in and making himself so at home. And he winced a little when he recalled that 'damn' he'd let fly, but considering Bones' vocabulary he had an idea she'd probably heard that one before, so he decided to shrug it off.

"I guess you just got here this afternoon, huh?" Jim asked. "Is your daddy here?"

Clay was in one of his moods again - the kind where he said stuff over the comm lines that made Jocelyn blush all over. Good thing Joanna couldn't hear, or she'd have a thousand questions to answer.

She cut him off and hung up, stretching out a little and migrating back into the other room. "Jo, hon? You haven't touched anything, have you?" Her eyes widened, then narrowed when she saw the strange blond man her daughter was talking to. "Hey. Who are you?"

Joanna looked up, that bright smile back on her face. "Momma, this is Daddy's friend. He's the captain of the ship that Daddy's gonna work on." She looked back up at Jim, grinning. "I forgot your name," she whispered rather loudly.

Jim stood up, nodding at Jocelyn. "I'm Jim Kirk," he introduced himself, taking in the suspicious look on her pretty face. Not for the first time, he found himself wondering where the hell Bones was. "Sorry to startle you - I was supposed to meet Bones--er, Leonard--here, so I let myself in."

Smiling, he added, "I hope you don't mind if I wait for him to get back." Awkward as this meeting was, he had no intention of going anywhere, not until Bones showed up.

Jim Kirk? She'd heard about him; everyone had, what with him and her ex-husband and the rest of them saving the planet. "Good to meet you," she said in a tone she hoped didn't sound too much like some fan girl or other, and stuck out her hand.

Jim stretched lazily, sitting back on the sofa and watching as Bones cleared the last of the dinner mess away. Dinner had been... surprisingly pleasant. He wasn't sure exactly what he had expected, but he'd been a little on the defensive when he found Jocelyn here. However, they'd had a pleasant enough conversation, discussing programming and Joanna and other, lighter, topics. It had almost been comfortable, aside from the fact that it was clear Jocelyn suspected something was up between the two of them. Jim hadn't said anything, but neither had he gone out of his way to hide the fact. He left it to Bones to decide what, if anything, to say to her before they left ( ... )

Seeing Jim with his daughter had been a completely unexpected experience - one that he'd hoped, planned on happening one day. The sudden arrival of Jocelyn and Joanna had spurred all kinds of thoughts in his head, and at the same time, only cemented in his head how right it was between the two of them.

He kissed Jim back, wrapping his arms around him. Thank you, for everything," he murmured between kisses. "I know you weren't expecting that."

"I didn't do anything special," Jim protested, leaning into Bones. "I'm just... glad you wanted me here. Glad I got to meet Joanna." He brushed his lips over Bones' again. "I guess you were surprised, too. When did you find out they were here?"

It had been fun, talking and playing with Joanna, and he'd enjoyed the conversation with her mother, too. But this, right now, told him just how right he'd been to stay. "Sorry if it was awkward, me being here. I don't know if you'd planned to say anything to her or not..." Jim trailed off, pulling Bones close.

His communicator was an unwelcome distraction. "Ignore it," he murmured, trying to do just that as he nipped at Bones' jaw.

Jo was finally conked out. It had taken two stories and three songs, but she was actually asleep - which meant that Jocelyn could go talk to Leonard. Once her daughter was asleep, she slept all night.

"Leonard?" she called, knocking on her ex-husband's door. "You want to talk?"

Looking up at Jim, Leonard froze. Jim's face had a similar look, not sure if being caught right now was a good thing or not.

Jim solved the problem by standing up and heading into the bedroom. Bones could hear him answer his communicator and began speaking softly to whomever it was that called him. Once Jim was in the bedroom, though, Leonard couldn't hear anything, so he headed to the door and pressed the button to unlock it.

"Hey," he said, looking down at his ex-wife. "Anything wrong?" he asked, worried.

"Nothing's wrong," she assured him. "Jo's out like a light. Just wondering..." She took a breath in, unsure how to phrase it. "What's going on with you and Jim Kirk?" she finally asked, having decided honesty was the best policy. "Are you, you know...more than friends?"

He glanced down at his feet. Fuck. "Come on in," he told her, stepping aside. Joanna was safe, tucked away in the other room, so they had a little time to talk.

Except for his captain in the other room. Well, Jim could hang out there for a few minutes. He sat down on the sofa and waited for her to sit down as well. "So... um, me and Jim." He took a deep breath, wondering why this was so scary, telling her this.

"Yeah," he told her, looking at her. "A little more than friends."

After Jocelyn left, Leonard's eyes turned back toward his bedroom. Jim had never emerged, so he wasn't sure if Jim didn't want to come out - if it he thought that he couldn't.

Probably should have said something, but fuck, he'd started talking to Joce and it was nice, being civil and friendly and even laughing a bit - time just escaped him. But as he turned the corner, his heart tightened in his chest.

Jim, curled up on his bed and fast asleep, still clothed. Bones took the padd from his hand, and carefully placed it on the night table. Pulling off his shirt, he sat on the edge of the bed and ran his hand over Jim's golden hair.

It had been another jam-packed day of meetings and talking with crew members, and after a lengthy conversation with Scotty about a repair delay and how it would impact the pre-flight schedule (not much, they decided), he had intended to either take a shower or venture back out into the living room to see what was up. But the bed had grown more and more comfortable, and before he knew it he had curled on his side and drifted off.

He didn't stir, not until he felt that warm hand smoothing over his hair. Even then, Jim just mumbled something unintelligible, pressing into the touch like a cat wanting to be petted, not quite asleep and not quite awake.

Leonard spread his fingers, carding through that soft hair. He smiled down at Jim, this tightness in his chest loosening, though his heart kept up its fast beat. Jim had no idea what he did to him, how watching him laying in his bed, waiting for him made Leonard feel.

And seeing Jim talking, laughing with his daughter, the light of his life... nothing awkward or unsure. He'd been everything Leonard could have wished for and then some with Joanna. This morning, Leonard hadn't thought he could have loved Jim more.

Right now, settling behind Jim and wrapping his arms around him, he knew he was wrong. If it were possible, he thought, tucking his face into the back of Jim's neck, he loved Jim even more.

Jim rumbled softly, his mind surfacing from sleep as Bones wrapped around him. "Mmm, Bones?" He brought a hand up to lace with his, and stretched with a sleepy yawn. "Didn't mean to fall asleep..."

He was warm and comfortably sleep-clouded, but Jim shifted around so that they were facing each other, tangling their legs together. Brushing their mouths together just for a brief moment, he sighed, shuffling closer.

"You really think I'm stupid hot?" Had he been fully awake, he probably wouldn't have admitted he'd heard that, but his defenses were down, body and mind relaxed after a busy day.
