All quite interesting to read. At some point I found your LJ through a friend's friends' page and I've been reading your updates regularly. My main job has always been - and always will be - samurai, but recently I've taken up a big interest in solo'ing with my monk. I've got thief approaching 70+ as well as dragoon (another big solo'ing job), but something about doing it with monk is just somewhat more appealing to me. I've had my eyes set on a Maat's Cap since it came out, but recently I've found myself off solo'ing with monk when I otherwise would be working on exp'ing lower-level jobs.

There's certainly an undeniable draw to it and while I abhor mnk/nin in merit parties, I find myself exploring the possibilities of what I can do with it solo more and more. I nee to get some more merits dumped into monk and really see if I can start doing some of this stuff too.

Glad to hear it. You can also try mnk/war in some xp situations, especially things like KRT PT setups (with that setup even new areas are perfectly fine without nin subs). Merits also definitely help a lot for monk.

Try telling that to some of my mage friends. You should see they way they cry whenever you mention you want to go /war on any job. ._.

Only some though. Some are getting better about it!

Don't you dare speak, I just won't take any blame when you die a million times! I wish we had an army of PL's and Mages curing our crazy DD's like Ruke's clan of followers. (I am one of the mage friends he speaks of, 75 RDM BRD BLM PLD RNG THF, But I bet you allready know that, As I also am the friend whom he found your LJ through!)

I want to merit on THF so freaking bad, every single pickup party has broken after less than 30min of meriting. But in those 30min I have yet to outparsed! gogo THF!

Skillups are in fact huge with rod breaks. One popular method back in the day (dunno if it still works, prolly does) was to take willow/yew/cheap rods to fish up legendaries to quickly skill towards the end. You could also do woodworking skill by continuously breaking and fixing your rods.

Ah, interesting, I think I'll give it a try. Those at least I can repair or craft again.

Merit Point!! momokiri March 20 2007, 19:54:10 UTC
Alky Bracelets went down surprisingly fast on Bismarck-- before patch they were 6milish, then pretty much instantly became 2mil. I haven't tried getting a pop item since the night of the patch a couple weeks ago, but even then it was pretty bad :/ It seems rather shortsighted of SE to make Alky and Pallas this way-- it's basically Archer Ring v2.0. Still better than the 24 hour spawn though.

Also, I'm guessing you solo giant scale as SMN? Been awhile since I farmed one.

I farm it as BST actually, it's just very convenient and I don't mind extra xp on BST as much since at least it improves my charm.
I think they will be going down more eventually and anybody buying it right now is 1) probably buying from gilsellers (bad), and 2) making a very bad investment as it can really only go down in price and they could really solo it themselves anyways.

Mammets. Yes, you can win without using 2hr as monk but it's faster and more fun with it, I use my 2hr every chance I get. Monk has amazing evasion, differently than other jobs like WAR or PLD, which have very bad evasion. Whenever fighting anything, including mammets, it's always good to know your opponent and all their moves. A good monk doesn't just punch and kick, if you use something like yellow liquid on the wrong form you'll just help them get their health back to 100%.
